Duties included:

Creating customized language learning plans for foreign students based on their individual needs

Planning and engaging students in practice conversations

Assessing students' learning styles, strengths and weaknesses in order to adjust my lessons for them as time progressed

Critiquing my students' speaking ability while simultaneously building their confidence

Developing a basic knowledge and ability of Japanese language to allow me to communicate more effectively with my students

Familiarizing myself with Japanese culture and current events to be able to engage students in conversation that was relevant to their own lives

Staying informed and educated about my own culture and country to enrich my lesson topics and allow my students to learn more than just language

Educating myself about any subjects that my students found important to learn English for (i.e. keeping up with science news to better teach scientific terms to a physics teacher, etc...)

Providing some students with assistance outside of pure language coaching and into such things as writing papers for university, preparing presentations for their jobs and practicing for specific exams.
