Working as a consultant in various capacities:

  • Interim General Manager and Sales Manager for Aston Hotels and Resorts Sun Valley, a property management company, including short term and long term rentals,12/09 to 05/10.
  • Hotel Development. Assisting Hotel developers in identifying and evaluating historic properties and castles in the south of France for possible conversion into Hotels, 06/09 to 11/09.
  • Committee Member of the Sun Valley Food & Wine Festival, 01/09 to 06/09.
  • Internet advertising for Sun Valley On Line. Assisting small business owners in getting an internet presence and listing, as well as driving business to their web sites, 06/08 to 12/08.

General Manager

Knob Hill Inn

Luxury hotel in Sun Valley, member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux Organization comprised of 26 rooms and suites, a 50 seat restaurant, a 35 seat café and meeting space.

Main achievements included:

  • Selection and implementation of a new integrated property management, point of sale and accounting system.
  • Creation and opening of a new fine dining restaurant, selection of new china, flatware, glassware and linen. Purchased the FF&E directly from the manufacturer's representative resulting in great cost savings.
  • Compiled an award winning wine list (Award of excellence Wine Spectator 08).
  • Designed a new website with online booking.
  • Actively represented the Hotel within the local community and the chamber of commerce, greatly enhancing the reputation and the visibility of the Inn.

Left for economic reasons, the hotel was offered for sale and the position of General Manager was eliminated. I delegated some of my duties to various staff members and trained them before leaving.

Estate Manager

Five S Properties

Managed an estate, comprised of a Mansion in Los Angeles (45,000 sq. ft. of living space, on 5 acres), a Ranch in Simi Valley (17,000 sq. ft. main residence, on 123 acres) and a Beach house in Malibu with a combined permanent staff of 30 employees.

Duties involved:

  • Organization of staffing of the several properties as dictated by the needs of the principal.  Also coordinated travel arrangements that included a private jet, two helicopters and luxurious automobiles. 
  • Implemented job descriptions and training for each position.  Reorganized and combined the security & driver's office to improve performance and communication.
  • Insured flawless execution of various high profile events, including birthday bash, political fund raising events and equestrian competitions. 
  • Supervised remodeling and repairs on the three properties.  Kept the principal informed of the status of the punch list and the various works in progress.  Responsible for safekeeping and repairs of priceless antiques and furnishings in the largest private estate in Los Angeles. 
  • Managed a luxury fleet of automobile, including maintenance and repairs, kept logs and files, as well as all paperwork and legal documents.
  • Purchased wine for a priceless 5000 bottle wine cellar that included most of the best known wines of France and the US.

Elk Mountain Resort

Luxury Resort located in the national forest.  Hotel affiliated with "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" comprised of 21 lodge rooms and 18 cottages, a restaurant, a cigar lounge and three meeting facilities. 

  • Involved in the development, construction and opening phase of a $35M resort.

 Left when the management contract of the management company who hired me ended.  The resort was subsequently converted into private residences.

Managing Director

Monmouth Plantation

Historical Antebellum Mansion in Natchez Mississippi. Hotel affiliated with "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" and "Historic Hotels of America", comprised of 30 individually decorated rooms and suites, a restaurant, and meeting facilities.

My accomplishments included:

  • Worked as a consultant before being hired full time.
  • Introduced new policies and procedures in the sales and catering department greatly enhancing revenue. 
  • Received "Gold List" award from Conde Nast Traveler, and "Best Hotels in the world" by Travel & Leisure. 
  • Implemented training and incentive programs for the front desk and housekeeping to improve service quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Developed a new accounting system and procedure to generate meaningful reports and control costs.         

Left because my goals were accomplished and I was attracted by the opportunity to participate in the opening of a resort.

Managing Director

Hotel Maison de Ville

Quintessential New Orleans Hotel affiliated to "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" and "Historic Hotels of America".  Comprised of 27 individually decorated rooms and suites, including the Bistro at Maison de Ville, a Four Star Restaurant.

 Accomplishments included:

  • Raised the ADR from under $150 to over $300, and the occupancy from below 60% to over 70%.
  • Supervised a $1M Hotel renovation.               
  • Received "Gold List" award from Conde Nast Traveler, and "Top five Best Small Hotel in the world" by Travel & Leisure.
  • Prepared monthly forecast, annual budget and marketing plan, as well as the five years capital expenditure plan.  Presented Quarterly financial results to senior corporate executives, including explanation of actual versus budget variances.
  • The hotel achieved high scores in guest comment surveys tabulated by an external organization after revamping staff training. 

Left because the company changed ownership and the new owners opted for a low cost strategy.

Meadowood Resort

A 100 room resort affiliated with "Relais & Chateaux" including a two Star Michelin restaurant, a Golf course, a Spa with two pools and Tennis courts.

 Accomplishments included:

  • Supervised the rooms division, the F&B department, Security, human resources and recreation departments.               
  • Hosted the prestigious annual Napa Valley Wine Auction
  • Initiated "the twelve days of Christmas" annual event to boost occupancy in the slow month of December.
  • Worked on the planning, construction and opening of 25 cottages

Left for a career opportunity to be a General Manager of a Boutique Hotel in New Orleans and manged a complete renovation.

QA 390 rooms Hotel generating over $8 M in F&B revenue.

 Accomplishments included:

  • Acted as General Manager in his absence.
  • Interacted with union representatives to implement unpopular work rules changes.               
  • Hosted prestigious events in the Room of the Dons an exquisite meeting space.
  • Remodeled the Top of the Mark where Sunday brunch was served.
