For over twelve years Matt has successfully managed various teams of highly technical people, focusing on the development and delivery of Internet, security and network based applications and services.These teams have been in the UK, Europe, US/Canada, Moldova, Japan and India.

He is expert in enabling software and service delivery in product and/or SaaS contexts and has devised and tailored product, software and project life-cycles accordingly.This combined software development and project/programme expertise has enabled Matt to unblock complex delivery situations; ensuring delivery is managed in a unified and predictable manner. He is a proven line manager with in depth experience in building organisational designs to support delivery.

Director of Strategic Programmes & Delivery


Reporting to the CTO, Matt was a key member of the Senior Management Team at MessageLabs. He was originally hired into this rapidly growing business to bring a consolidated set of management skills to the Software Engineering function. After joining he managed several additional teams as the business grew.These were tactical, interim assignments to bolster departmental stability or restock exhausted teams.Matt successfully devised and implemented an end-to-end product development life-cycle across the entire demand, supply and provide business units. He achieved this by being the key catalyst in setting up and managing the first PRB at MessageLabs.

Within 18 months of joining and in recognition his strategic approach to enabling delivery in a complex SaaS context, Matt was promoted to Director, Strategic Programmes & Delivery, responsible for the planning, and delivery of all product roadmaps and strategic initiatives.

At acquisition, Matt was responsible for over 40 staff and MessageLabs was a market leading, global business, providing a full range of Internet security services via SaaS for global enterprises and SMBs.MessageLabs was acquired by Symantec for ~£400m in November 2008.

Software Development Manager


Matt managed a specialised Software Design and Development team based in Nottingham.He was line manager for over 20 staff and successfully selected and integrated an offshore development capability based in Moldova. He was instrumental in developing Nexor’s (Prince 2 based) Project Management Framework and successfully developed and delivered a range of on-line tracking and reporting tools to support it.

He also redesigned the Engineering organisation and refreshed the development life-cycle, product roadmap and project management processes.Nexor is a highly technical environment, developing products for high assurance and high security deployments in military, government and civil contingency markets around the world.

Senior Manager, Applications and Platform Technology

Reporting to the Director - Applications & Platform Technology, based in Washington DC, Matt managed a team of over 30 Systems Architects, Systems Engineers and administrative support staff.C&W services that were developed delivered and supported under his management generated revenues of $108 million in 2001/2.He was responsible for managing a programme of multi-million pound application and service developments in the Wholesale ISP, network services and public sector markets, dealing with a full measure of suppliers, integrators and internal business units.The APT team was responsible for end-to-end life-cycle activity across developments, from specification, design and development through to delivery and acceptance.The team also provided third and fourth line support to Operations for stretching SLAs.

Matt held Design Authority in the UK, responsible for all customer facing Internet applications and services.These were managed using an in-house development process and C&W's (Prince 2 based) Project Management Framework.This was a dynamic and pressured environment, which he managed with a collaborative and delivery focused style.
