Project Co-ordinator

The University of Nottingham
I am working within the school of pharmacy, managing several PhD programmes run by the University of Nottingham in conjunction with University College London. Key responsibilities include PhD application management, web page maintenance, school advertisement and PhD programme project management. The role is continuing to evolve as I have recently started.
May 2014 - Aug 2014

Urmatt Ltd Organic Jasmine Rice Production, Thailand
I was contracted to improve waste management in Urmatt's principal rice growing region of Northern Thailand(Urmatt are one of the world's largest producers of organic jasmine rice). I designed a scheme to reduce, store and then re-use waste products(rice husk; rice husk ash, dust and chaff) which incorporated a plan to change staff behaviour and attitudes towards waste. This proved challenging especially given the need to work through an interpreter. However, I delivered the project on schedule and Urmatt is now sending significantly less waste to landfill. I enjoyed presenting my plans at board level and taking a leadership role for this significant commercial project.

Management Trainee

Enterprise Rent a Car, UK
Mainly retail outlet based, sales formed a large part of the programme with all graduate trainees having individual monthly targets. I exceeded all my targets and achieved two‘ Top 10' placings(out of 700 branch staff-not just graduates). Customer service was a large part of the role, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also won 5 new business accounts totalling£ 5000 per month in incremental revenue. Managerial experience developed substantially with rotating leadership responsibility for a team of 25 staff, 4 of whom I personally mentored. I completed the scheme ahead of schedule but turned down a promotion to Assistant Manager in order to focus on my core interest in sustainability and prepare for my MSc.
Oct 2012 - Feb 2013

Business Development Assistant

Peel Energy, UK
I was tasked with finding suitable sites to place sub-mega Watt turbines on land owned by the Company. I used desk based screening techniques to provisionally recommend 20 sites, 6 of which are currently under further investigation. I also researched a site for a 20MW wind farm on the Isle of Man. I was also part of the Peel Energy team at the Barton Biomass Plant Public Enquiry where I gained valuable understanding and insight into planning procedures and legal issues associated with such developments.
2011 - 2012

Student Consultant

Oxford Brookes University, UK
During my final year I carried out a flood defence evaluation for the Maltese government. As part of a field study group I co-authored a report evaluating flood prevention measures in two of the most notoriously flood prone areas of Malta. Oxfordshire County Council approached the University to carry out a sustainability study on their office buildings. I was one of 4 final year students selected to conduct the work, which resulted in a number of our recommended energy saving measures being adopted.
2009 - 2012

Business Development Assistant

Birmingham Children's Hospital, UK

In addition to a assisting in a wide variety of fundraising activities I co-developed a new fundraising idea for schools called the “Birmingham Boogie” - a fun, dance event for kids and their parents, which we created in 2010 and launched in 2011 - and through which we raised over £4,000 for the Hospital in 2012.

2008 - 2009

Waiter and Barman

Edgbaston Golf Club, UK
Working to raise funds during the first part of my gap year, I learnt ‘silver service’ skills as a waiter and also assisted with both food preparation and behind the bar. These skills enabled me to secure a position in the French Alps over the Winter Ski season.
2008 - 2009

Waiter and Barman

Courchevel, France
I worked as a waiter and bar man during the season-long hours and steep language learning curve. Team-working experience also really paid off. By the end of the season I was running the Cocktail Bar(including opening, stock management and cashing up) as well as waiting at table in the restaurant.
