As the Manager of the EBSCOhost Application Services group, I oversaw a team of technical professionals tasked with delivering the underlying foundation of core processing logic and software services driving EBSCO Publishing's “EBSCOhost” research platform, a web-based application handling millions of transactions each day.I managed and mentored a team of twelve highly-skilled engineers responsible for the delivery of software services utilizing the latest technologies from Microsoft, VMWare, Membase/Couchbase, Cisco, DynaTrace, and several major open source projects.Over time, I expanded our team's service lines beyond application development to include solution architecture/design, application performance profiling, third party solution evaluation, and application lifecycle management.My team and I were responsible for innovation on several fronts, including utilization of virtual machines for service delivery, adoption of distributed caching and NoSQL technologies, and implementation of a flexible and scalable continuous integration/deployment processI encouraged my team members to pursue professional development through an innovative peer-based continuous improvement program. My studies focused primarily on toxicology, resource allocation, population dynamics/statistics, sustainability, and impact/response of an ecosystem to the introduction of contaminants or pathogens. I've found that my educational background lends itself well to the design and the development of enterprise applications and domain models due to a shared foundation of complex systems science.I’m now finding that my two life-long interests – technology and the environment -- are finally converging thanks to the Green movement currently sweeping across the corporate landscape.
