Vice President - Colocation Operations

Citadel Data Centers LLC

Manage, directs, implements, and coordinates the regional operations’ activities, strategies, and objectives to ensure the achievement of group’s goals. Focuses for short-term goals are on-time delivery, cost of sales. Focuses for long-term goals are the formulation, planning and implementation of strategies. Acts as advisor to executive team on issues that impact the business.

  • Set up strategic partnerships with large REIT's to deliver >10MW of wholesale capacity to large enterprise clients. 
  • Facilitate the technical bridge between Colocation providers and Clients; translating client workload strategy into actionable data center requirements.
  • Provide market / industry trends and insights to leadership team to help guide company direction.
  • Partners with site Human Resources on employee development and succession planning initiatives
  • Budget responsibility of approximately $8 to $10 million
  • Implement standard Kanban practices for managing project workflows, and visualization of company priorities.
  • Led the strategic engineering partnership between Citadel, HPE and NautilusDT for a 12 megawatt ($190M) High Performance Computing project in Brazil. 
  • Led the design and implementation team for migrating a 1 megawatt web content company  from a legacy DXC facility into a new Digital Reality Trust  data center. 

Director - Cloud R&D Data Center Operations

Responsible for end to end IT infrastructure services for HPE Cloud R&D. Developed data center infrastructure strategies that aligned to company core objectives. Managed the entire HPE Cloud organizations capital budget, applied fiscal controls that dramatically improved the operating budget from being more than 20% over budget YoY to operating within  +/- 3%  

  • Provided strategic/tactical vision and planning along with daily management of staff consisting of 6 managers and 50+ individual contributors spanning 3 geographies.
  • Responsible for vendor management of colocation data center services providers to meet or exceed contracted performance SLA’s.
  • Commissioned a new 2 Megawatt data center (partnership with Stream) in 2016 to support customer facing Cloud deployments.
  • Directed the transition all of HPE's Public Cloud data center assets to other HPE business units to support customer growth while mitigating new Capex expenses.
  • Manage $20 Million in annual data center Opex and $10-15 Million in annual Capex.
  • Led organizations data center consolidation from (6) to (3) regional data centers - increasing reliability and lowering cost.
  • Accountable for providing robust R&D infrastructure support and services for the HPE Cloud engineering BU's. Services include:
    • Core services i.e. DNS, NTP,Puppet, SMTP relay, PXE, LDAP.
    • Operation , support  and procurement of all hardware platforms 
    • Provide support and operation of all Storage and Networking infrastructure & Services
    • responsible for providing support and operation of HPE Helion Openstack managed private cloud service.
    • Provide necessary data center facility services, spare and power planning

Sr. Manager- Public Cloud Data Center operations

Provide leadership as the manager of global data center services. Responsible for end to end data center operations; IT hardware installs, hardware optimization programs, hardware repair & maintenance as well as facility operations, design and strategy.  

  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new  data center build outs, new colo build-outs, HP data center expansions, and colo expansions, including server hardware install, troubleshooting and repair, security system install, troubleshooting and repair, and related Operations tasks.
  • Deployed HP's first production containerized data center; consist of (2) 800 kw HP 240a ECO-PODS.
  • Bootstrapped HP Puiblic Cloud by negotiating 3 MW of wholesale data center capacity in US West and US East regions. 
  • Commissioned a new 1 megawatt facility in Frankfurt Germany as 
  • Manage $20 Million in annual data center Opex and $30 Million in annual Capex.
  • Provided strategic/tactical vision and planning along with daily management of staff consisting of 30 directs spanning 3 geographies.
  • Prioritization, direction of installations and maintenance activities for more than 18,000 cloud servers.
  • Ensured all established policies are in use for all activities such as repairs, changes, upgrades, etc.
  • Established a RAPID centralized rack integration and capacity delivery program that supported more than a dozen data centers worldwide.
  • Supports adherence to relevant SOX, PCI, ITIL, corporate security or other applicable compliance standards.

Manager - Data Center Engineering Operations

Provided strategic/tactical vision and planning along with daily management of staff consisting of 13 engineers and 1 manager spanning all functions of Data center physical infrastructure design, delivery and facility automation..

  • Lead the MEP design development and retrofit of more than (20) remote data centers world wide. Created a standard self-contained modular POD design that could be incorporated into any remote facility. 
  • Responsible for the engineering, development and implementation all global data center infrastructure management software tools, supporting more than $1 Billion in HP’s critical infrastructure. Software suits include but not limited to OSIsoft –PI, Aperture Vista, Bizalk RFID, RFcode, System Insight Manager, and Metasys.
  • implemented a global rollout of DCIM across all core data centers and key remote sites
  • Owned and maintained global IT data center technology road-maps, set team goals and objectives that resulted in the execution of the organizational road-map.
  • Highest rated manager in the IT Infrastructure organization. Maintained highest individual rating 7 years in a row, held Top employee ratings for 2 consecutive years.
  • Fostered collaboration with HP Labs and HP Product team, was able to position my team as Alpha testers of new products and solution, providing real world feedback and driving requirements back into the R&D teams.
  • Increased patent submission for the Data center organization by 100%, was the only team in the ITO organization how was regularly contributing to HP’s Intellectual property.

 HPIT NGDC Data Center Operations Regional Supervisor

Led data center operations team responsible for data center space & power planning, server and network cable plant installation for (6) Data centers - 13,000 cabinets , 30,000 physical servers and 500,000 sq.ft.. Set standards for hardware install and cabling, Implemented change management policy & procedures across IT and facilities. Transitioned the data center organization from manual print and email change records to an automated online change control tool that I developed.

Responsible for the development of data center structured cable plant designs. Work with clients and sub-contractors on project scoping, bid-analysis and RFP responses to develop the most cost effective cable plant design that met the customer requirements.


Manager- Colocation Data Center Technical Services

DataSide Solutions

Managed nationwide data center technical operations of the 24x7 data center environment. Identified and implemented critical metrics necessary to manage and monitor the performance of overall operations including: capacity, availability, budget, and inventory. Oversaw all electrical and mechanical infrastructure such as UPS systems, generators, fire suppression systems, DC power systems, and HVAC systems in order to achieve 100% availability. Translate business server, storage, and networking requirements into specific Data Center needs (space, racks, power, AC, cabling) with cost estimates. Has responsibility for meeting established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Other responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for (5)MW of Mission Critical facility infrastructure
  • Supports adherence to relevant SOX, PCI, ITIL, corporate security or other applicable compliance standards.
  • Accountable for multiple teams in regards to design, specification, testing, deployment and implementation of company IT projects
  • Managed the IT support teams responsible for managing the companies IT infrastructure i.e. desktops, email and file shares services, anti-virus end point services and active directory.

Tactical Node Center Switch Supervisor

Supervised and trained 6 technicians on the installation, operation, troubleshooting of electronic switches, UHF/SHF radio systems, Digital Encryption systems Manage and troubleshoot LANs and other associated equipment. Prepared employees work schedules and assigned duties. Advised team members on job performance and professional development.

  • Maintained 1st Cavalry Division tactical Voice and Data Backbone during Operation joint Forge deployment Bosnia 1999
