Provided lactation education and consultation in addition to other parenting support, to at-risk and adolescent mothers as a part of a Port Angeles, WA, Olympic Medical Center maternal-child health program.  Since 2008, I have also provided both volunteer and freelance lactation consultation to new families including families of multiples, families of NICU graduates, and families with babies who have special needs.

Lactation Procedures

Lactation procedures include manual and pump expression, human milk fortification, manual expression of clogged ducts and nipple blebs, nursing bra fitting, SNS fitting and use, nipple shield fitting and use, and use of special needs feeding devices such as Haberman nipples.  Also proficient in challenges to lactation including galactagogue recommendation and referral for prescribing, NICU graduate pump to breast transition, latching babies with special needs, and postpartum depression.  


Proficient in clinical nursing skills within the inpatient setting including IVs, advanced vitals, fluid and medication administration (all routes), wound care and dressings, suture removal, oxygenation, line care and maintenance (including VP shunts) and ambulation with a variety of devices.  Didactically trained in suture placement, basic incision and drainage, and benign lesion removal. Well-woman exams and procedures, including basic microscopy. Majority of training in pediatric setting.


Completion of advanced didactics in prescribing, including legal considerations.  Currently completing clinical practice education leading to graduation in the state of Ohio which culminates in a one-year prescribing externship.

This NCH Clinic provides multidisciplinary investigation of child sexual and physical abuse for the region surrounding the Columbus, OH area.  Teams include mental health, social workers, child protection service case workers, forensic interviewers, and medical professionals working together to investigate abuse cases.
