Surrey Law Centre Management Office

Office Assistant

Office work at the Surrey Law Centre which included answering calls, directing clients to my superiors specialising in requested areas of law, booking appointments for clients with solicitors, data processing and storage, as well as archiving documents. I was the first person SLC's clients would speak to upon decision to contact the office for a week and, due to the fact that most of the cases concerned family disputes and domestic abuse, the experience taught me how to remain professional when facing sensitive topics. Additionally, I was assigned with the task of building SLC's case database. It was an excellent opportunity to familiarise myself with their past caseload and to read solicitors' comments on cases that provided me with a valuable insight into their practice.

Thaikhun Guildford - Thai Leisure Group

Junior Supervisor

I started working at the Thaikhun restaurant in Guildford as a waitress in order to support myself during my studies at the University. I was soon offered to progress to a Junior Supervisor, and proceeded to work full-time. This work in customer services enhanced my interpersonal skills, confidence and time-management. My responsibilities included dealing with customer complaints, training new staff members, conducting briefings for some time daily, as well as an ongoing supervision of the team's performance. I was also in charge of gratuity distribution among the team. I assisted my managers in their responsibilities. On occasion, I would also cover the bar. The company is extensive and has 22 sites across the United Kingdom. I found it incredibly inspirational to be able to meet and exchange ideas and experiences during a training session for supervisors, ambassadors and assistant managers organised by TLG. This experience taught me that teamwork is the key to success.

Other Positions of Reponsibility and Activities

Vice President for Activity

Polish Society at the University of Surrey

My part in the Committee involved organisation of events for the members of our society, participation in Students' Union's events as well as coming up with ideas for future meetings. We had no distinct duties within the Committee and all formalities were dealt with by everyone in the team. Our ultimate goal was to attract new students from Poland to the University of Surrey and to provide a welcoming environment for newcomers. As we passed our roles to younger members at the end of our term, we were proud to see how we have contributed to the establishment of the Polish Society.
