About Mark Semeraro

In a similar case Mark Semeraro handled earlier this year, he secured a stay on an out-of-state judgment for $2.6 million. Defending Glenn Rushton, he argued that the out-of-state plaintiff used fraud and violated his client’s constitutional right to due process of law in order to obtain the judgment. Mr. Semeraro swayed the court with his constitutionally based argument and secured an order of temporary restraints against the defendant, preventing his attorneys from executing the out of state judgment while Mr. Sememaro's counterparts overturned the judgment in Louisiana.

In another recent case, Karakashian v. Cinnaminson Township, Mark Semeraro successfully defended four defendants against a number of charges, resulting in the judge dismissing all but one of the charges. He also successfully negotiated a nominal settlement with the plaintiff’s counsel who originally demanded over $400,000.00. The settlement occurred after a 2.5-week trial, during which Semeraro secured a dismissal of all but one claim against his clients, and immediately before a jury began deliberations.

In 2009, Mark Semeraro represented the Borough of Ringwood in a class action toxic tort case, In Re Mahwah Alleged Toxic Dump Site. The case’s more than 600 plaintiffs originally requested $1 billion from the borough. Mr. Semeraro settled the case for $1.5 million, a value that was substantially less than projected litigation costs, if the matter proceeded to trial.

Formerly an attorney for the Township of Wayne, Mr. Semeraro now acts as a Borough Attorney for Bloomingdale and works with several other municipalities as special litigation counsel and labor/employment counsel.
