  • Created business plan and strategy, raising money for 2 private companies and executed the operational plan for Emblaze allowing them to raise $400M consisting of both a secondary public offering and private placement.
  • Recruited and licensed independent music artists/bands for video production, allowing me to start TOKYOPOP Records, negotiated distribution agreement with Orchard, the largest distributor for independent labels.
  • Ranked #2 (behind Microsoft) by PC Magazine, while at Cambrix, as having 7 of the top ranked 100 CD-ROMs in the marketplace.
  • Established international vendors and test marketing peripherals, which later became branded as Packard Bell.

New Media Digital Consultant

First Person Productions (concurrent with TOKYOPOP)

First Person Productions is a production, licensing and publishing company providing book audio and video (DVD) packaging services to major publishing companies represented by The William Morris Company.

Current project is production, and execution of branded face book game, and porting to iPhone, Ipad, Android and other social media sites, with a bent towards consumer engagement and brand recognition and revenue strategies.

  • Created partnership to repackage the content of an Emmy Award winning television production company to the company's product offering.
  • Created audio books, educational videos, printed books and radio programming product offerings resulting in global new market development.
  • Negotiated licensing agreements with major book publishers including Barnes and Noble and Carlton Books and entered into a marketing relationship with PRIMEDIA, one of the largest magazine conglomerates in the world.
  • Established strategic relationships with mass marketers such s Sams Club and Costco to market company's products.
  • Generated shipments of over 150,000 audio books through retail channels including projected 2004 shipments of over 300,000 books.
  • Lead a staff of media rsearchers, writers, designers and editors, direct production efforts in repackaging existing content in new formats to market as co-branded products through license agreements.
  • Generate LA, a Ross Levinsohn (Velocity)backed company. Served as a consultant in the creation of their video syndication network.

TOKYOPOP DIGITAL, LLC

TOKYOPOP is the largest publisher of English language, Manga (Japanese comics), in the world, with offices in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Hamburg and London.

Recruited by the CEO as a consultant to evaluate the digital marketplace, create a business plan and  launch TOKYOPOP Digital, a separate company set up to exploit TOKYOPOP's intellectual property into the mobile, broadband and wireless (handheld) markets.

  • Positioned TOKYOPOP as the leading content provider of manga/animation across all digital platforms, and expanded digital distribution globally to English speaking countries..
  • Negotiated a TOKYOPOP channel with Verizon who was the largest video mobile carrier at the time, one of only 82 channels.
  • Structured early distribution deals with both MySpace and YouTube, resulting in multimillion views.
  • Developed the entire organization and had P&L accountability.
  • Built team and procedures that took raw print files and streamlined a process to create digital products, from content "wrangling" to production management to launch and marketing.
  • Created dozens of products for mobile, broadband, e-book, games, and handheld devices.

Cambrix Partners provide consulting services in the areas of business strategy and development, marketing and sales to content and technology-based companies.

  • Worked with a diverse base of clients, both early stage and established companies, in industries including computer hardware and software, wireless, telecommunications, media, and the Internet.
  • Rodman and Renshaw: Acted as an advisor for this investment bank on operational and market feasibility of business plan submissions including provided feedback on the business model and management teams.
  • Dasar: Rebuilt a 60K circulation magazine targeting Global Business Technology including securing initial advertisers, establishing the distribution strategy, redesigning look and content to be more compelling to the target audience, creating editorial calendar, setting up a bullpen of freelance business journalists, and developing strategy and content for website. Set up policies and operational procedures.
  • Keytronics: Performed feasibility study for Keytronics, the largest OEM keyboard manufacturer in the world, to determine whether the company should enter the market with their own brand.
  • Future Media: Negotiated and secured content for Future Media, the 5th largest CD/DVD manufacturer in the world, for company diversification. Established a relationship with The Kids Division of Discovery Communications including a master license agreement as well as a joint venture.

Geo Interactive Publishing (now Emblaze Ltd.)

Provides Java-based software tools for creating and streaming audio and video web multimedia. Initially traded on FTSE as GIM and currently trades under the name of Emblaze Systems (BLZ.L).

Under exclusive consulting agreement: 

  • Served as member of 4-person executive management team that grew company revenues from 0 to $7 million in the first 18 months by establishing sales and marketing infrastructure enabling the launch of 5 core products.
  • Developed recommendations for marketing strategies that were presented to the parent company and adopted by the Board of Directors that resulted in the company completing a $44 million secondary offering, moving the company from the small cap AIM exchange to FTSE, and securing a $350 million private placement from Lehman Brothers.
