Shop Assistant

Eish!Gift Shop

As a shop assistant, my job description required me to run errands for the manager and owner. I managed the till as well as the front desk. I was expected to have great Mathematics skills as well as knowledge of both English as well as Afrikaans

Mar 2010 - Apr 2010

As a casual, I was waitressing as was needed but mostly cleaning. I have been made well aware of what the restaurant industry requires. My people and communication skills were acquired here.

Computer and information literacy

I was exempted from the Computer LIteracy module at the University at Pretoria as per regulations of the Exemption exam due to my extensive knowledge of Word, Excel, Powerpoint. I also passed the Information Literacy module with a distinction indicating my awareness for using the Internet as  a platform to find research and to communicate with others. Typing is also a skill I have obtained since I took Computer Applications Technology as a subject in HIgh School. A computer is a medium of communication and programs such as Word, Access, Powerpoint and Excel are essential in the workplace because they help us to communicate words, numbers as well as create presentations which are essential for effectiveness.

Project planning and management

I managed to plan a poject titled Victory Soccer Challenge in Welkom aimed at raising funds and to raise awareness in the community of Matjhabeng,. I successfuklly drafted a proposal and managed to organise sponsorships through delegating to others.

Public Speaking

I have had debate for a very long time and this has established my ability to talk in front of large groups of people. Presentations at school especially within modules such as Public administration and Politics have also polished this skill.

My leadership skills were first recognized when at an Afrikaans high school I was recognized as a chairperson. This made me realize that I am not limited by my ethnicity and that my leadership skills shine through. I effectively led a team of youth of Chi Alpha in to organizing a traffic jam which is an annual event at the University of Pretoria aimed at felllowship for the youth which is one of the activities which prevent the youth from partaking in unnecessary activities.

I have good proficiency in English as well as in Afrikaans and have recently acquired a skill in another South African language which is isiZulu. I believe it is essential to be able to communicate in more than one language because it enables one to reach a broader base of people.
