In 2005 I took a job working with Fat Lip Entertainment where I booked bands and promoted events. Also hosted a Battle of the Bands event.
My duties and responsibilities as a nanny to the family I worked with were various. On a daily basis I am in charge of arriving early in the morning to wake up the children, cook a healthy breakfast, pack nutritious lunches, be sure that they are groomed properly and are ready to arrive at school at a proper timely fashion. In the afternoon, I would retrieve the children from school and bring them home where they would routinely change into play clothes and start on homework. I would assist them if needed. I also cooked dinner for the family and was responsible for bringing them to and from sports activities. I also was responsible for making sure the children were in their beds at a reasonable time at night and were fed snacks and nightly groomed. I served many roles during this this time. My roles included but were not limited to; day care, teacher, cook, light housekeeper, computer operator, counseling services, secretary and driver.
As assistant manager I was responsible for various duties including master ear piercing, interviews, financial reports, inventory and floor plan assembly.
Starting my own promotions/management business for the summers that I went back to New York gave me the opportunity to showcase and use my abilities that I acquired from the classes I took in announcing, audio production and public relations. I have managed and promoted a local band and set up a nation wide summer tour.
In 2006, I was fortunate to gain experience working with directing and production on set of an independent movie in New York called “Anchor Eddy’s” working with directorDavid Dellecese of Catch Your Breath Productions. There I learned how to work and be a part of a crew, along with learning how to direct a movie and seeing how the process took place in the real world.
Over the past three years at Rogers State University, and more specifically in the last two years as a member of the Communications department, I have taken many classes that have imparted concepts, skills and theories that will help me pursue graduate school and a career within the Communications arena. I hope to pursue a Master’s degree within the Mass Communications Media Management Programs at Oklahoma State University or Mass Communication for Journalism Program at the University of Oklahoma. I assembled many skills and knowledge here at Rogers State University that I can put to use in many ways.
These skills and many more that I have attained in my time here at Rogers State University are applicable to many jobs. Whatever the path in the future brings, I can adjust them to wherever I am placed. This is why I have decided on a specific job market. I can use these skills in the ways that I need to use them. I will look out and find the job that best suits me because my skills are distinctive.
I first went to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa in August of 2004. My first two years I was taking courses that are generally called general education courses. Once I finished those courses I started taking classes for my degree in communications. I took courses in Radio/TV Announcing, Audio Production, Television Production, Acting, Script Writing, Public Relations and News Production to help myself learn more about the aspects of radio and television. I was also able to take courses that help me with my writing and my skills in producing videos and live camerawork. Before I left ORU and later transferred to Rogers State University I became a member of the Public Relations Student Society Association.
