An accomplished trial lawyer based in the Los Angeles area, Luis Li practices law with Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP. In this role, Li focuses his activities on complex business litigation, white-collar criminal defense, international enforcement matters, art law, corporate crisis management, and internal corporate investigations. Li also serves as an Assistant United States Attorney. In this role, he has tried almost 20 federal cases. Throughout his career as an art law attorney, Luis Li has worked with a number of major art institutions. Li assumed responsibility for an internal investigation for the J. Paul Getty Trust, which helped the organization to better understand the provenance of objects in its antiquities collection. During the investigation, he worked closely with individuals at all levels of the Getty Trust, including the board of directors, President, curators, and staff. Due to the efforts of Li and his staff, the Getty Trust settled claims with the Italian and Greek governments.Today, Luis Li provides legal counsel to the Norton Simon Art Foundation as it defends a claim regarding two 16th-century pieces by Lucas Cranach the Elder. As a legal representative of the Norton Simon Art Foundation, he determines the provenance of panels by working closely with historical researchers and the curatorial staff. He garnered a motion to dismiss from the District Court and currently oversees the matter in the Ninth Circuit. Prior to his current responsibilities with Munger, Tolles & Olson, Luis Li spent three years with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. As Chief of the Criminal Branch, he oversaw one of the largest prosecutorial agencies in the state of California.
