Community Service -
Salvation Army - Through Key Club, I volunteer frequently at my local Salvation Army office helping to sort canned foods after they hold any food drives. This food then goes to families that they have listed in their system. During Thanksgiving time, we also help give out frozen turkeys and other festive non-perishable foods to alloted families.
St. Vincent de Paul Village - I began volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Village here in downtown San Diego with my mom through her work. While there, we assist lunch distribution in the kitchen by serving the families staying there their food. We then clean up the dining hall by mopping, seeping, and wiping down the tables.
Father Joe's Villages Thanksgiving Day Run 5k - Both my friend and I volunteered at this running, cutting oranges and getting together other snack foods for the runners that day. The proceeds of the event went towards helping the homeless adults, children, and veterans in San Diego. I hope to volunteer again this coming year.
San Diego Food Bank - My mom and I have also volunteered at our local food bank through her work. We mostly assisted with packaging different foods, both perishable and non-perishable, for the elderly needing food services.
Rose Bowl Float Decorating - Every year, the city of Pasadena holds the Rose Bowl Float Parade on the first day of the new year. For the past four years, I have gone through Key Club to go and volunteer to decorate the floats used in this event. Because they only use fresh plants on the floats, it is a difficult but rewarding task.
Travel - I love to travel both within the country and out of it as well. Because I have family in Mexico, we travel there frequently to visit. This past summer, however, I went to China with People to People Ambassador Program as a representative of the 'all-American' teenager. It was a great experience filled with touristing, community service, and great friendships.
