Educational Philosophy

Throughout my student teaching, substitute teaching, and tutoring experiences I have discovered that I am an energetic, supportive, structured, and innovative educator. In my classroom, I will provide students with a structured, consistent environment in which students will know what is expected of them at any time during a given lesson. The classroom will have a feeling of comfort, acceptance, and respect among all members; students will respect one and another’s ideas and learning styles, and students will be able to openly express themselves. As the teacher, my role is to provide students with the tools and knowledge that they need in order to succeed in and out of the classroom.

To create this type of classroom environment that promotes student success in academic and social situations, I will implement many teaching strategies that I have learned throughout my experiences. All students are different and learn differently. So, it is important that an educator can cater to differing learning styles and multiple intelligences. I will use various modes of presentation in order to reach all students learning styles:  lecture, video, audio, images, and text. In addition to different modes of presentation, I will implement many educational technologies that enhance student achievement by adapting to a student’s ability and learning style. Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed and gain the knowledge that they need to succeed in life, so I will do all that I can to work with students differing abilities and learning styles.

Students of today are 21st Century learners; technology is an integral part of their lives. 21st Century learners are interested in learning about new technologies, and they are fluent with many technologies. Thus, teachers need to be 21st Century teachers. I am a 21st Century teacher because I integrate many instructional technologies into my classroom, and I can relate to my students interests and lives outside of school. Technology can motivate students to learn, spark interest in the content that we are learning, and aid students in the learning process. Technology is becoming such an important part of everyday life; 21st Century educators need to be able to adapt their teaching strategies to include technologies that enhance the learning process.

I believe that every student has the ability to succeed. It is my goal to get to know each and every one of my students, so that I can integrate their interests into the content that we are learning. I will give every student the respect that they deserve, and I will strive to promote a learning environment that is conducive to learning. I will provide each student with the skills and knowledge they need in order to be a positive contributor to society. My motivation and passions for education and mathematics will push me to be the best educator that I can be so that my students can grow into the best young adults that they can be.
