Social Media and Citizen Engagement Coordinator

Citizen Engagement and E-Learning Initiatives, Ministry of Education, Province of British Columbia

I am the head of the moderation team for the BC's Education Plan online citizen engagement project, a forum which gathers public feedback on education transformation in BC. In this role I manage incoming comments from the public, train new moderators, write training materials for the staff, coordinate new content for the website, strategize with ministry executive about new ideas for the project and write regular progress reports for ministry staff and the general public.

I also manage the ministry's @bcedplan Twitter account, both sending and replying to messages about our BC's Education Plan project.

I develop citizen engagement education and training materials for Ministry of Education employees as well.

Managed all aspects of development for more than 10 print and online courses B.C.certified distance education courses and several B.C. Government and public sector projects.

  • Developed instructional design plans, in consultation with subject matter experts, for each project
  • Recruited and hired subject matter experts to write first draft of course or project content
  • Wrote second and final drafts of content to suit different delivery environments (print or online) and different target audiences
  • Worked with graphic artists and media experts to develop artwork and multimedia pieces for each course (e.g., video and audio clips, interactive maps); wrote numerous scripts for multimedia assets
  • Established, managed, tracked, and maintained budgets and timelines
  • Recruited and hired qualified editors to review course content

Repurposed content from existing websites for inclusion in a learning object repository. Tasks involved:

  • Determining how the original content matches various provincial curricula
  • Producing graphs and reports to illustrate these connections
  • Co-writing a project plan, specifying project goals, deliverables, roles and responsibilities, timelines, etc. 
  • Dividing original content into stand-alone, teachable pieces of information 
  • Writing additional content 
  • Meta-tagging content according to CanCore learning object specifications 
  • Working with technical staff to design web site
  • Providing technical staff with content for web site
  • Meeting with technical staff to discuss development progress
  • Writing regular project status reports
