Founder and Owner
For more than 25 years, John Wahlborg’s Total Tennis has challenged children and adults at all levels, from beginners to juniors, to appreciate hard work and a winning outlook in tennis and in their everyday lives. I have staffed sports programs with entry level, experienced, and expert personnel. I have experience in staffing management, employee evaluation, budgeting, promotion, marketing, and general business matters.
My students have played at the national and collegiate levels, but I am most proud of my accomplishments with players who have learned to hold their heads high, battled to improve their game, and developed a love of tennis for a lifetime. I take pride in any program I am associated with, and my greatest joy comes from watching a child grow and persevere to become a quality player, as well as a person of character. My program has instilled confidence, independence, respect and a competitive spirit in thousands of people.
Total Tennis – Love the Battle
Jan 2002 - Jan 2013
I helped raise $1.8 million to launch the Lamar Tennis Center at the Paula G. Manship YMCA in Baton Rouge. The facility has 20 tennis courts, a track, hitting wall, offices, and other tennis amenities. While director, I was responsible for facility construction, management, maintenance, staff development, budgeting and planning, special events, fundraising, and board and committee development. My community outreach included programs for the Special Olympics, a Wheelchair tennis program, Big Buddy Tennis, the Total Tennis Scholarship program, and LSU Tennis Support and Awareness efforts.
