Summary

I have ten years of research, writing and editing experience in the fields of environmental law, energy policy and climate change policy. I am the assistant editor of the loose-leaf book, Environmental Law in South Africa (edited with Prof. Jan Glazewski; first published in 2013), and am an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa. 

I am currently undertaking a postdoctoral research fellowship, conducting research in the area of climate change mitigation and insurance.

My postdoctoral research focuses on climate change mitigation and insurance. The aim of the research is to identify and understand recent instances internationally of insurance businesses and others in the insurance system, such as regulators and industry associations, engaging in actions that mitigate climate change and, importantly, the conditions which enable (and disable) those actions.

I undertook freelance editing work for Juta & Co and LexisNexis, and edited books and journal editions spanning a range of legal fields, including international law, labour law and trust law.

I provided research assistance to Prof. Glazewski prior to and during my doctoral studies in the area of environmental law generally, which included assisting in the editing and complete updating of Environmental Law in South Africa. After completing my doctoral studies, I continued to provide ad hoc research assistance. My own research during this time focused on environmental law, climate change and energy policy and culminated in the writing of several journal articles and book chapters.

I was a researcher within the Centre of Criminology’s Environmental Security Programme and was responsible for monitoring new developments in the field of environmental security and developing a blog and compiling monthly reports in this regard, as well as developing an electronic library. I was involved in organising and reporting on seminars and forums. I was also responsible for performing research tasks as requested.
