Since 2007, Lori Sweere has been serving in the position of Executive Vice President for Human Capital at UnitedHealth Group. Drawing on her previous experience as Chief Human Resources Officer for CNA Financial Corporation in Chicago, Lori Sweere has been able to institute programs that have increased employee engagement at UnitedHealth by eight points. As a result, UnitedHealth currently ranks within the top 25% for employee engagement among companies of comparable size. Lori Sweere’s efforts in establishing equal rights in the workplace have been recognized by organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, which has awarded UnitedHealth Group a rating of 100% for three consecutive years. Corporate Leadership Council, a company that provides assistance to organizations for human resource management, has also recognized Lori Sweere’s accomplishments at UnitedHealth. The firm has honored UnitedHealth with top benchmark ratings including one for integration of the recruiter development model and another for programs aimed at developing high-performing employees within the organization. Lori Sweere’s initiatives at UnitedHealth Group have also been recognized by the prestigious Bersin & Associates, a firm that provides resources to support Human Resource (HR) training and talent development in corporations. Only 25 organizations are honored by Bersin annually for HR innovations that contribute to significant improvements for business. JetBlue, IBM, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and Deloitte are among Bersin’s notable clients to win awards. Under Lori Sweere’s direction, UnitedHealth was recognized for effective implementation of Bersin’s models for High Impact Leadership Development and was benchmarked as a High Impact HR Organization. Although Lori Sweere’s efforts have been instrumental in winning several HR awards for UnitedHealth, she is quick to acknowledge the role that the entire HR team at the company has played in garnering the awards. In 2011, UnitedHealth won a Patriot Award from the Connecticut Department of Labor in recognition for its support of the National Guard and Reserve and the company was also an honoree for a Webby Award. In addition, the National Business Group on Health recognized UnitedHealth with a Platinum Award for being one of the best employers to promote healthy lifestyles and workplaces. UnitedHealth Group has also been recognized on Forbes magazine’s list of top companies since Lori Sweere joined the leadership team. A graduate of Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior and Communications, Lori Sweere has contributed her services to USO, Inc. in Chicago, as well as to the Corporate Leadership Council in Washington, D.C.
