Work experience

Reporter, Anchor, Production Assistant

DuckU News

DuckU is a student-run weekly television program at the University of Oregon that includes news and sports. I reported on campus issues and current events by shooting, writing, and editing short news packages. I also anchored and helped with production during tapings. I was the host of the show during the spring of 2008.

Anchor, Producer, Reporter

Oregon News

Oregon News is a thirty-minute live newscast that airs on Comcast channel 23 every Friday at noon.

It also streams live on the internet. Viewers can access the newscasts on the Oregon News website as well.

I anchored the Friday newscasts as well as the five-minute online newscasts. I also produced the show and coordinated stories with reporters. When I was not producing, I created two-minute packages each week about campus and community issues. Some of my stories include the Willamette Confluence Project, students' response to the string of suicides among gay teens in the nation, and the university's efforts to increase diversity.

My passion for journalism stems from the experiences I've had growing up. I was born in the Philippines and moved to Hawaii when I was seven years old.  I could barely speak in English, making it difficult to interact with my peers. After joining the English Language Learner program and sharing the Filipino culture to my classmates during "Show and Tell," I made many friends and even sparked interests in my culture. I learned immediately the importance of bridging the gap between cultures, no matter how young or old you are.

I hope to use the various functions of mass media to highlight the lives of ordinary citizens with remarkable stories.I hope to assist Americans in gaining insight into international events and cultural diversity, which will benefit society since globalization has a massive influence on the United States.I am inspired and committed to bring people together and raise awareness in the world. I am also interested in documentary filmmaking, and I love to create documentaries about various social, educational, and cultural topics.

My hobbies include watching documentary films, horror films (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and American horror cinema), cooking, eating, and traveling.
