Loren Weiss attends New York’s Stuyvesant High School, a well-known educational establishment that works with students and parents to foster individual awareness and responsibility. This academic setting offers intellectual, athletic, aesthetic, and social opportunities. Loren Weiss receives an excellent education at Stuyvesant, where he concentrates on a college preparatory curriculum that involves courses including Global Studies, Chemistry, Physics, Classical Literature, and Ancients & Moderns. Loren Weiss is proud that Stuyvesant ranks 31st on U.S. News & World Report’s list of the best public high schools in the United States.In addition to maintaining an excellent academic record, Loren Weiss acts as a member of Stuyvesant’s chess team. As of the August 2011 United States Chess Federation ratings, he ranked 45th in the country in his age category. He has also been listed among the top 100 chess players by age each year since 2005. The Stuyvesant team participates in national competitions, and Loren Weiss has traveled to win games in Columbus, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; and Nashville, Tennessee. An avid player, Loren Weiss also maintains involvement with the Marshall Chess Club, one of the oldest in the U.S. At this venue, 13-year-old Bobby Fischer won against Donald Byrne in what was called the “game of the century.” As a member of the National Chess Federation, Loren Weiss joins more than 80,000 members to participate in national championships and other tournaments. He also played for New Jersey on the 2010 World Amateur Team, an annual tournament that attracts competitors from across the country.
