Summary

My name is Travis Perks. I'm currently a senior at Washington State University studying for my bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. I am a hard working individual and am very determined to achieve goals that I set. It is my goal, as an engineer, to do whatever I can to improve the everyday life of the public. I have seen how the real world works in terms of a work environment and believe that I have what it takes to be a top notch engineer. I work well in teams but can also work individually. I understand the sense of urgency in a work environment and can meet deadlines while still completing tasks thoroughly. I want to build and refine the skills that I have learned from school and my two internship experiences.

Work History

Work History
May 2010 - Aug 2010

Design Engineering Intern

Washington River Protection Solutions

During this internship I received the opportunity to work with a number of different groups within the company. The Design Engineering group was responsible for completing design tasks that the company did not want to subcontract. I participated in some project management by creating and updating schedules for projects that were assigned to the Design Engineering group. I also assembled some project metrics for a couple of the projects the group was working on. These metrics were used to evaluate the efficiency of the group and to help management delegate upcoming assignments. I also kept track of what every group member was working on over the period of a month, which helped management see who was available to work on upcoming projects.

Another project that I worked on was calculating ventilation rates for tanks that contained flammable gases. The basis for performing the calculations was to determine if the tanks could sustain a concentration of flammable gas below the flammability level concentration while ventilation systems were shutdown.

May 2009 - Aug 2009

Safety Engineering Intern

Washington River Protection Solutions

In the summer of 2009, I helped prepare the company for an audit performed by the Department of Energy and a group of independent consultants. The Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) was being verified. ISMS plays a key role in providing workers with a safe environment to work in. I participated by gathering documents requested by the consultants and helping them find anything that they needed. I also analyzed safety data and provided a breakdown of the safety issues for management to review.
