Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) RN for adult and pediatric patients. Care of patient's included all medical surgical aspects of nursing care in traditional settings. Typical patient load was 6 - 10; varied per shift.
The following is a list of experience related to TBI and general patient care:
-All aspects of personal hygiene, skin/wound care protocols, and fall risk prevention.
-Use of restraint protocols related to medical and behavioral needs. Including use of physical restraint
alternatives, posey vests, soft wrist restraints, four point restraints, and use of net beds.
-Use and understanding of multiple modalities related to Coma Stimulation protocols.
-Care and use of tracheostomies, g-tubes, NG tubes, and catheter related needs including intermittent,
foley, and suprapubic catheters.
-Orthopedic devices such as CPM machines, polar ice, boots/braces, etc.
-Spinal care protocols including bowel/bladder programs, halo device protocols, and pin care.
-Assistance with speech therapy and extensive knowledge of swallowing quidelines for all patients.
-Assistance with physical therapy as needed related to specific patient needs.
-Extensive discharge planning experience and education of family related to training for at home care and
use of community resources.
-Use and care of intravenous sites and IV medication therapy for patients.
