  • Designed and developed a three-week classroom-based curriculum for HIV Leadership Associates,South Africa region. Collaborated with subject matter expert and evaluation team. (Client: Population Services International, March 2011-Present)
  • Provided curriculum expertise to a group that was exploring the feasibility of converting a classroom-based drug prevention curriculum to a video game format. (Client: Drug Strategies, Inc., June 2010)

The American Psychological Association Practice Organization (APAPO) is an affiliate of APA whose mission is to promote the professional interests of practicing psychologists in all settings through a wide range of activities.


  • Managed the design and development process for online professional development courses, measured learning and effectiveness and provided authoritative guidance and leadership to organization senior management.
  • Created course development policy and process documents.
  • Oversaw an electronic review process of course materials using collaboration and information sharing technologies (CourseMill LMS,WebEx and SharePoint) with on site and remote subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Synthesized and organized complex content to design instructional plans that included text, audio and visual elements for three online courses and four tutorials. Developed SCORM conformant courses and tutorials using rapid e-learning software.
  • Defined measurable objectives and developed end-of-course assessments and knowledge checks using situational/scenario-based questions that contributed to the mastery of learning objectives.
  • Developed a request for proposal process and documents.
  • Evaluated vendor proposals, overseeing the development of management and design plans, and providing quality assurance for four online course deliverables.


  • Distributed guidelines and reviewed CE applications from practicing psychologists, awarded CE units, and prepared CE re-application for APA Continuing Education Office; managed the co-sponsorship process.
  • Applied new technologies to an antiquated paper-based hand-tallied continuing education credit process thereby saving hundreds of hours of staff time.

PerformTech, Inc. is a training and performance improvement company that provides services to clients in the private and public sector.


  • Managed a Customs and Border Protection web-based course development project concerning the identification and proper handling of security sensitive information.  The courseware was scenario-based and was developed in Evolution to be both SCORM conformant and meet Section 508 requirements.
  • Developed OPM project plan, including schedule and budget.
  • Supervised of all aspects of the project including instructional design, graphics development, and programming. 
  • Coordinated quality control testing to ensure completeness, consistency and accurateness.


  • Led the development of a Customs and Border Protection instructor-led course revision project for basic entry specialists, including an instructor guide, student guide, slides, job aids, reference materials, and assessments.  Course development emphasized performance with practical exercises and case scenarios.
  • Responsible for the initial planning of project, developing and tracking budgets. and for serving as the main point of contact for clients and subject matter experts.


  • Conducted on site courses for the Federal Highways Administration and the Veterans Benefits Administration for their staff who have training responsibilities. The course addressed topics such as adult learning principles, how to create learning outcomes, visual aids, tests and assessments, and how to design interactive learning activities.

Instructional Designer

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the national service organization dedicated to representing the national interests of cooperative electric utilities and the consumers they serve. NRECA's more than 900  member cooperatives serve 42 million people in 47 states.


  • Planned, collected, and interpreted needs assessment and course evaluation, including pilot training data, to guide learning product design and development.


  • Collaborated with a subject matter expert panel of representative co-ops to design and develop a blended customer service training program for co-op customer service representatives and their supervisors.  

ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT: Designed and developed an online avian influenza course for electric cooperative disaster preparedness personnel using a rapid e-learning authoring tool.


  • Worked with subject matter experts to develop a web conference and pre-post event learning sessions on conducting a disaster preparedness tabletop drill.


  • Revised and updated nine instructor-led courses in the Supervisor Management series according to identified core competencies.  Topics included: communication skills, change management, human resources, performance management, and handling conflict.

  • Provided instructional design and performance improvement expertise to the Program Management Initiative, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy for two instructor-led week-long courses: Program Management Overview and Project Management.
  • Led a course development work group to identify specific performances and content for project and program management courses. (Prior to my involvement, this group had been stalled for months and my leadership successfully moved the group forward.)
  • Created and successfully taught a systematic instructional design process to the course development work group, which was comprised of subject matter experts.

The BEST Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to providing schools and their community partners with the necessary information, materials and guidance to effectively implement Project ALERT, a skills-based substance abuse prevention curriculum for middle grade students.


  • Designed and delivered a train-the-trainer program; provided performance feedback and evaluation of trainers. 
  • Conducted nationwide Project ALERT training workshops for school staff.


  • In collaboration with Allen Interactions, provided instructional design guidance and content expertise in the development of an online drug prevention curriculum training module for school personnel (http://www.projectalert.com)

  • Successfully proposed the idea of online teacher training to replace an increasingly expensive national in-person training program.

Turning Point was an initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Its mission was to transform and strengthen the public health system in the United States by making it more community-based and collaborative.
