Salesperson

The Gap Inc.

I began my job at the Gap only planning to keep it for a short period of time, but as I kept working I began to really enjoy working in retail. I assist in opening and closing the store daily. I welcome customers into the store and share our special promotions for the day. I help customers make savvy fashion choices and help them to find their style while marketing our product. I also keep the store looking its best, dress mannequins, set up displays, dress the windows and more. I have truly enjoyed my work as a sales associate because I love helping people by identifying their needs and helping to fulfill them. Working as a sales person helps improve my communication skills and I find myself marketing our products every day.

Development Intern

The National MS Society

As a development intern at The National MS Society, OKlahoma I assisted with planning special events. The main event I worked on was Uncorking the Cure, a live and silent auction event, which raised more then $104,000 in 2011. I helped to send out mailings, create signs, brochures, etc. I worked to promote our events on social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook. When i began at the MS Society, our Twitter page for Uncorking the Cure had about 10 followers, by the time I left we were in the hundreds. I set up a Hootsuite account to help us keep track of our Facebook and Twitter pages. During my time at the MS Society, I worked to launch our social media presence to a new level. One of the hardest parts of launching our social media was getting people who were not yet connected with Uncorking the Cure interested and keeping us relevant during dead periods between our main events. Securing donations and auction items was another integral part of the event. My favorite part of working events is setting it up the day of and seeing it all come together, and Uncorking the Cure was amazing to see come together and set a record fundraising result. I worked on the Bike MS and Walk MS events as well. I continue to volunteer with the National MS Society this year as a member of the Uncorking the Cure logistics committee.

Student Assisant

Oklahoma State University Student Union Marketing Department

During my senior year at Oklahoma State University, I worked at the Student Union Marketing Department as a marketing assistant. I enjoyed each day I spent at the Student Union because each day brought new challenges and projects. One of the most difficult things I worked on were product descriptions. The reason that project was difficult is because each product needed its own description and there were multiples of the same product in different colors. One of the most important things I did was monitor our social media presence as well as built up our following. Each day, I followed new students on Twitter in order to get more students to follow us back. I updated our Twitter and Facebook with events, important information, construction updates and facts about the Student Union. i set us up on Hootsuite in order to help myself and predecessors monitor our activity more easily. I  created a a monthly newsletter for the other employees and faculty keeping them updated on events of the Student Union. Each month I produced content for our Clinique, Union Events and bookstore eblasts. I  made promotional materials and signs for different groups using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. We kept each issue of the OSU and Stillwater newspapers in order to archive any clipping about the Student Union. I also worked with Twitter, Facebook and Hootsuite to reach out to students and faculty through social media channels. This was a rewarding experience that has continued to be relevant in my career and education.

Skills

Skills

Adobe

I have worked with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. I can design fliers, brochures, newsletters and more. I took a class through Oklahoma State University where I learned these how to work these programs and how certain things should be made. There is always room to learn more, but I am comfortable working with these programs.

Planning events

In the past years I have planned some events through my high school and sorority. I worked with a team to plan senior prom, senior breakfast and other senior events during my final year of high school. It was a great experience to book vendors, choose decor and plan the ambiance of the events.  During my collegiate years I worked in many capacities to plan things for my fellow chapter members. I worked to make the most of our budget and time to provide meaningful and sophisticated events. Some of the events I worked on were our Founder's Day, preference day during recruitment, senior week, a senior date party and more.  During my internship with the National MS Society, Oklahoma my main project was to help with the planning of Uncorking the Cure. Uncorking was a large wine auction. We had about 300 people in attendance and raised more than $100,000 in one night. I helped to secure vendors, auction items and boost our social media presence.
