Vice President, General Manager

Time Inc, Time Inc. Media Group

Selected by CEO to be a member of the senior management team tasked with redefining and rebuilding Corporate Sales and Marketing, the division responsible for selling print and digital advertising to Time Inc.'s largest clients.  Structure advertising deals and manage the implementation of 50+ advertising contracts reflecting over $500 million in advertising billings.  Manage a financial and production staff of 20 and a budget of $35 million. 

Key Accomplishments:

  • Reorganized financial staff and created new systems and processes to absorb a 5x increase in work volume with no increase in staff.
  • Consolidated advertising and consumer marketing research functions into one organization, saving $500,000
  • Evaluated structure of Time Inc.'s custom publishing operations, recommending a plan which will lead to a 13% decrease in the cost base after 5 years.
  • Re-priced a key product offering for the company which was successfully introduced into the marketplace.
  • Designed a pricing approach and financial processes to support multi-website digital sales.
2004 - 2005

Served as the Chief Financial Officer and a founding member of the leadership team responsible for a new business division focused on growth market opportunities.  Designed and managed shared services functions including finance, production, administration and compensation.

Key accomplishments: 

  • Supported division comprised of Teen People, People en Espanol, SI for Kids, Time for Kids and a start up, All You through 46% year-over-year growth.
  • Renegotiated contracts for technology, imaging and consumer marketing services saving $600k + annually.
  • Identified and realized $1million in production cost savings.
2001 - 2004

Vice President, General Manager

Time Inc.,Media Sales and Marketing

Selected by CFO to help lead a newly launched division responsible for Time Inc. corporate advertising sales.  Negotiated and implemented multi-magazine ad deals and provided senior financial management for three advertising businesses. 

Key accomplishments:

  • Proposed innovative ways to sell advertising, including agency- and audience-based models. 
  • Developed and implemented new company-wide policies to maximize the profitability of unsold advertising inventory.
  • Designed financial systems to support Time Warner's Global Marketing Solutions team, a new group responsible for selling ad deals across Time Warner.
  • Created a Custom Publishing strategic plan which improved the effectiveness of sales and business development efforts.
  • Consolidated a high risk, outsourced fulfillment operation into Time Inc's fulfillment center
1998 - 2001

Finance Director

Time Inc., Time Consumer Marketing and Time Distribution Services

During a period of significant business change, served as CFO of two divisions responsible for generating Time Inc.'s subscription and newsstand revenues.  Managed a budget of $85M.

Key accomplishments:

  • Improved departmental allocation and chargeback methodologies
  • Established financial support for new departments, including online subscription sales.
  • Designed a methodology to accurately cost technology projects

  • Evaluated new business opportunities and several large acquisitions, ranging in size from $15 million to several billion dollars.

Created a centralized shared services organization responsible for advertising order processing and billing for 17 magazines and advertising revenue of $900 million 

Key accomplishments:

  • Led department of 22 through a staff down-sizing of 10 and 20% turnover in 3 years with no decrease in service quality.
  • Re-engineered the advertising order workflow both internally and with advertising agencies
  • Led several sales technology initiatives including a project to standardize worldwide sales reporting
