Summary of Earlier Work Experience

Earlier work experience has given me skills in small business and management, public relations, HR and leadership.  I owned and operated a seven-day convenience store.  I managed a small business, Mrs Fields Cookies, where I doubled the sales figured and managed six employees.  While living in the USA, I worked as a fully certified ski instructor at Deer Valley Resort, Park City and in New Zealand, at Turoa Resort .

Fur Fabrics NZ

I was the sole trader of a small business which was run from the home garage.  The business involved the import, wholesale, and distribution of fur fabrics for retail craft supply outlets. I also designed and sold teddy bear patterns to enhance the sale of fur fabrics.  Tasks included sales, book keeping, GST, computing, sales projections, business planning, pattern designing, marketing and promotions.

  • Organisation and Time Management - I have juggled raising a family and running a home as a sole parent while managing my own Import/wholesale distribution business.

  • Project Management – Managed a fictitious IT project throughout the semester which involved all stages of a project from planning to closing, which included all necessary documentation and a Gantt chart. Achieved a high distinction.
  • IT Project: I worked in a team of five students to develop an online roster and timesheet system for the Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre, my responsibilities included: discovering requirements, systems analysis and design, documentation, version control, and a project presentation.
  • Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) project assignment: The task in this project was to research and plan a ski trip to the United States without any face-to-face contact with other team members. I was responsible for leading online meetings, motivating other team members, research, collaborative planning, and the production of the final online presentation. Achieved a high distinction.
  • Animation Project - Individual: Using Maya animation software, I created an animated riverbed scene where I used various techniques to create the scene, incorporating sound effects and animating a swimming fish using key frame animation. Achieved a high distinction.
  • E-commerce Website Project - Individual: I produced an e-commerce Website using ShopFactory 7 software to meet project requirements such as, displaying products, a shopping cart system displaying prices of products, shipping and taxes in various currencies, and providing the ability to make secure online transactions. Achieved a high distinction.
  • Network Project: This group project involved the planning and documentation for a network over two wings of the university campus. I led my group in the planning and decision process in selecting suitable network media, I oversaw other group members in the IP addressing scheme and broadcast domains. I was also responsible for the network plan diagrams and documentation. Our group achieved a high distinction with 96%. 
  • Databases - Individual: I planned and implemented a database system in MS Access. Achieved a high distinction. 
  • Systems Analysis and Design – Analysis and design of a hardware tool checkout system. This project taught skills in requirements discovery techniques, documentation, actor diagrams, use case narratives, process models, data modelling, and entity relationship diagramming. Achieved a high distinction.
  • Human-computer Interaction - I conducted a heuristic evaluation on an educational typing program for children and produced a report with the findings. Achieved a high distinction. 
  • Commercial Computing – I developed a billing system in MS Excel for a chiropractic clinic. Achieved a high distinction with 100%.

  • BSc in Information Technology: Majored in Business Information Systems and Information Systems Development at Murdoch University.
  • While studying, I worked on a casual basis for Perfect Project Planning over a period of three years gaining valuable experience with Microsoft Project.
  • I studied and worked as a part-time mature age student and a sole parent while raising a family, improving organisational skills.
  • Prior work experience has given me and an understanding of business processes, customer service, human resource issues, and I have developed good oral and written communication skills.
  • While at university, I achieved a high level of academic performance with some awards and an ACS Foundation scholarship, which provided me with work experience in administrative services and in systems analysis at the Department of Industry and Resources.
  • While at university, I was engaged in a voluntary tutoring program assisting other students in need of a private tutor.
  • As a person with previous work and life experiences I am able to offer maturity, stability, good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team.
