Aviation Capability Development Group

Project manager for the introduction into service of all new Army Aviation capabilities.

Managed the introduction into service of the $1.6bn Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) project, and the MRH90 Troop Lift Helicopter (TLH) project.

Managed considerable risks, worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders, interacted successfully with senior Defence managers such as Chief of Army, was a major contributor to the development of tactical doctrine, and managed the Defence Science and Technology Organisation tasking to develop and refine tactics.

Chaired the Transition Working Group which developed the strategies to bring the ARH into operational service.

Achieved the Initial Operating Capability for the ARH.

Developed the strategy for testing the operational capability of the new aircraft.

Held the equivalent responsibility of CEO for a $145M organisation.

Worked with $88M in capital expenditures.

Overcame a 50% decrease in aircraft capacity, by introducing an new aircraft type into the training system, safely and efficiently.

Moved a $100M+ defence helicopter training school within 90 days with no lapse in training.

Led up to 90 direct reports and an additional 60 indirect reports.

1997 - 1999

Deputy Director, Army Aviation

Defence Force HQ - Capability Development Group

Took over management of Project AIR 87, which had been running for over 12-years, to get it approved and funded to $1.6bn within 36 months.

Successfully gained approval and funding for two additional Chinook helicopters under Project AIR130which increased the ADF medium lift capability.

Developed the strategy to streamline the ADF Helicopter fleet from 11 aircraft types to 4, thereby saving Defence millions of dollars annually in operating costs by rationalising the training, supply and maintenance systems.

Contributed to the strategic planning of major Defence capabilities including the ADF pilot training system and the Amphibious aviation capability.

Became a trusted advisor to the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Force.
