Laurie Scolari has spent the last five years as the Associate Dean of Outreach and Recruitment Services with City College of San Francisco. During that time, she has launched industry-leading recruitment and admissions programs for new undergraduates.Under Laurie Scolari’s leadership, City College has won education-related grants totaling $3.4 million. The most recent, a $3 million award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was a joint endeavor with the San Francisco Unified School District and San Francisco mayor’s office to fund community programs. Earlier, she helped to secure a US Department of Education grant for an initiative called Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, or GEAR UP. Laurie Scolari has an impressive track record with GEAR UP, having won a $16 million, six-year grant to start GEAR UP while an Associate Director at the University of California, Santa Cruz.Laurie Scolari has spent her entire career as an educator and administrator. In the mid-1990s, she led a program that matched high school students with college tutors while with San Jose State University. Later, she was recruited to the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she developed college outreach initiatives that were implemented in more than 20 middle schools and high schools.During this period, Laurie Scolari also served as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of California, Berkeley, San Jose State University, and, most recently, City College of San Francisco.Throughout her career, Laurie Scolari has been honored for her service as a faculty member and administrator. In 2011, City College recognized her with its annual Award of Excellence for Outstanding Contributions & Achievements.
