My Philosphy of Education

My philosophy of education focuses on the belief that every student can learn if given the opportunity.  I must discover the hidden potential within all of my students and focus on the positive aspects of each of them.

I will establish a positive learning environment where each student is responsible for his or her own actions.  My approach to learning will follow the constructivist model so that learning is student-centered. My students will work cooperatively in groups and individually when needed.  I will also incorporate the different multiple intelligences so that my students can be engaged in their learning while maintaining individuality and creativity for all.  I will also celebrate diversity within my classroom by allowing my students to learn about other cultures either through our textbooks or through real world experiences.

As for morals and character building, I believe that these should be incorporated within the curriculum as well as in my daily lessons.  Building the self-esteem and promoting positive attitudes of my students is also very important to me as a teacher. Students can learn these attributes by learning to respect each other and their community by doing volunteer work to help those in need. This would help my students and empower them to see that they can truly make a difference for others.

When I am working in a school, being a team player will be very important to my success as a teacher.  Cooperating with others is an important aspect of being a team player and helps build community within the school.  I will be available to discuss issues, assist with after-school programs, and do whatever it takes to be a positive teacher within your school.

These are some aspects of my philosophy of education but most importantly I will treat all of my students with respect and dignity at all times. I will build my students up and help them achieve high levels of success educationally, as well as personally. I will be a positive role model for my students and expect that same respect from them.I know I can facilitate a positive environment where all students will be challenged to make a difference in their own lives or in the life of someone else.

I am a very creative person and love to express myself in many ways.  I am an artist, a poet, a photographer among many other things. I enjoy being outside either walking, running, biking or canoeing.  I also love to makeover furniture creating new uses and new looks for items I find.  I also love to paint and redecorate my home for the seasons.

To obtain a position within a school teaching English, Language Arts, or Social Science, have worked extensively with middle school students and love the atmosphere and the attitudes of these students, I have experience mentoring youth from diverse backgrounds;  working on self-esteem issues, assisting with homework, and participating in our Black History Month program, am passionate about teaching and helping our youth become the best they can be in their education as well as helping them grow as individuals. I also have experience working with the Hmong students in our area and understand some of their culture and the backgrounds that they come from.
