Work Experience

Work History
Sep 2008 - Apr 2012

Field Research Technician

MNR

Working in the field as a Research and Lab Technician, I assisted on seasonal stream discharge projects, measuring stream flow and snowpack in remote areas. The research required operating and managing dataloggers and weather monitoring equipment. I have experience assisting in habitat and substrate assessment requiring drilling and soil sampling. This position exposed me to index sampling methods, survey design and planning where extensive benthic and basal sampling mapping was required.

Apr 2010 - Nov 2015

Natural Resource Management Technician

MNR / BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations

As a Resource Technician/Technologist, I have successfully led teams and project crews in environmental remediation, environmental emergency response and field research. As the lead technician working on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects, I've relied on technologies such as ArcGIS, MS Excel, Access and other database management and mapping software to synthesis research findings for MNR managers and their stakeholders. I routinely applied and implemented practical knowledge of Ontario's Environmental Protection Act (equivalent to BC's EMA) and CSR practises in remediation and Environmental Impact Assessments project operations.

Aug 2012 - Aug 2013

Hydrology Research and Laboratory Assistant

Royal Roads University Office of Sustainability

Working with the RRU science lab on hydrology projects, I've assisted setting up and testing hydrometric variables such as hydraulic head and conductivity for cross sections of the Capital Regional District (CRD) watershed. Reporting to the lead scientist, I was responsible for generating reports using MS Word and composing PowerPoint presentations for project updates. Additionally, as a team, we exhaustively researched and applied the CCME's Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines (CEQG) during the reporting and assessment phases.

Sep 2008 - Apr 2012

Field Research and Lab Technician

MNR

Working in the field as a Research Technician, I assisted on seasonal stream discharge projects, measuring stream flow and snowpack in remote areas. This work involved being able to access remote snow-covered landscapes, working around moving water and mitigating unstable ice conditions. The research required operating and managing dataloggers and weather monitoring equipment. I have experience assisting in habitat and substrate assessment requiring drilling and soil sampling. This position exposed me to index sampling methods, survey design and planning where extensive benthic and basal sampling mapping was required.

Sep 2012 - Sep 2013

Environmental Analyst

RRU Office of Sustainability

As part of comprehensive major project at Royal Roads University, a team and I were responsible for investigating contaminated site characteristics and the relating hydrology of the CRD watershed. Applying the relevant BC EMA regulations and CSR, we assessed and monitored variable terrestrial and aquatic industrial contaminates. Remediation research and recommendations were composed as part of a Phase I ESA for the RRU Office of Sustainability.
