Journalism Experience

Columnist/ Pet Photographer/ Web master

Friends of League City Animal Shelter, Houston, Texas

May 2010-Present

My current work as a volunteer columnist and photographer for the Friends of League City Animal Shelter keeps me on my toes by writing monthly adoption articles and posting animals on petfinder.com on a regular basis. I also edit other article submissions and maintain the non-profit's Web site. I recently streamlined the shelter’s Web site by redesigning it and making the shelter animals the focal point on the site, rather than the shelter itself. Thus, promoting the shelter animals availability for potential adopters.

Editor & Producer

Parker Media | The Agenda, Austin, Texas

February 2009-September 2009

As the Editor & Producer of The Agenda, a conference series in Washington, D.C., I have coordinated two events in the series. I have also written press releases and developed online advertisements featured on “The Washington Note,” a political blog by Steve Clemons of the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Editorial Intern

Urban Home Magazine, Austin, TexasJune 2008-January 2009

My internship at Urban Home Magazine was extremely valuable because I had the opportunity to learn all facets of producing a monthly magazine. At the conclusion of the internship, I was commissioned to edit the Fall 2009 issue, wrote the Letter from the Editor section (Summer and Fall 2009 issues), and wrote the cover article, “Go Up the Wall with Wallpaper,” among other editorials.

Student Volunteer

The University of Texas at Austin

Fall 2007-Fall 2008

I have written several articles for burntORANGE Magazine, the UT student magazine. My most recent article, “Secrets in the Eyes of Texas,” was featured on ABC News’s On Campus Web site. I have also written for InCite Newspaper, the UT student alternative newspaper, and designed both the nameplate and Web site, www.incitealternative.com, for the Spring 2009 launch date. As another project for InCite, I traveled to McAllen and Brownsville, Texas and Matamoros, Mexico to report on border security and Mexican-American discrimination at The University of Texas-Brownsville.

Webmaster

While employed with the non-profit the Bay Area Council On Drugs & Alcohol, I have helped coordinate several projects, including the annual Healing Field Event and district-wide health fairs. Working on these advanced projects gave me the opportunity to work and coordinate tasks with several departments simultaneously. I found with communication and cooperation, it is possible to complete any task no matter the deadline. Also, as the webmaster I recently redesigned the company’s Web site, www.bacoda.com, for accessibility and visual appeal.

  • Emcee of first annual Healing Field Memorial dedicated to the awareness of drunk driving fatalities in Texas
  • Redesigned Web site 2009
  • Maintain three Web domains and have developed over 200 individual web pages for the company
  • Maintain social networking sites, including BACODAblogs.com
  • Develop advertisements, banners, bookmarks, logos, etc. used at health fairs and presentations
