KNID, Interior Design, Kristin Nugent, boutique firm, Santa Monica, California
Interior designer Kristin Nugent launched her own boutique design firm, Kristin Nugent Interior Design, in 1998. Since then, she has created dozens of luxurious residential spaces that reflect her clients’ individual lifestyles, while incorporating thoughtful, modern, and lighted elements that have become central to her designs. During her career, Ms. Nugent has not only built her firm from the ground up, but she has also headed up major projects ranging from a 3,000-square-foot modern New York City loft to a 6,000-square-foot newly constructed contemporary home in Laguna Beach, California. As the owner and President of Kristin Nugent Interior Design, based in Santa Monica, California, Ms. Nugent oversees all facets of the company. Her responsibilities include full conceptual development for each project, from the demolition of the home through final selection of art and accessories. She leads site meetings, which are critical to the development process, and also meets with various artisans and vendors. Ms. Nugent researches furnishings and art that emphasize each client's style, needs, and personal taste, and manages a staff while working one-on-one with her clients. As a designer, Kristin Nugent applies a distinct and modern style to her projects, emphasizing aesthetic details, light sculpting, textural materials, and, most importantly, the client’s needs. She also maintains a reputation for working closely with her clients to understand and incorporate their goals and to keep them aware of the process. As a result, Kristin Nugent Interior Design’s finished spaces have been featured in several publications covering the interior design industry, including on the front pages of California Home+Design and the Robb Report Vacation Homes. Kristin Nugent enjoys traveling, and exposure to different cultures has influenced her designs. She has visited numerous countries around the globe. Her most recent excursions include driving through the South of France to visit perfumeries and lavender fields, and visiting various stone yards in Northern Italy to further understand the process of stone slab selection.
