Vice President of Technology

Stardock Corporation, Plymouth, MI
  • Designed and deployed software and hardware architecture for multiple digital distribution clients and website infrastructure for over 150 Stardock products/sites.
  • Impulse digital distribution client and ecommerce store
    • Designed software architecture, integration points, and workflow for staging, test and release builds/updates for content from 10MB to 30GB.
    • Designed hardware and software backend to support 24/7 availability of content.
    • Deployed co-lo servers across multiple data centers for scalability/redundancy.
    • Worked directly with client architect, business stakeholders, UI designers, and release teams to coordinate new features and updates.
    • Helped grow Impulse users to 3-4 million over 2008-2011. Impulse revenue grew 300% in 2010 alone, to where it was the largest percentage of the business.
    • When looking to partner to expand the business further in 2011, GameStop opted to purchase the Impulse client and store outright. Worked closely with GameStop technical staff to transition operations with minimal downtime.
  • Worked with internal and external partners (including Dell, HP, Microsoft, and Parallels) through development life cycle and release of their software.
  • Managed relationships with third-party vendors including hosting/CDN/cloud provisioning.
  • Created hundreds of product installers/updaters for deployment across the web, digital clients, and retail DVDs. This frequently involved developing custom scripting (most recently in Setup Factory, using a Lua derivative) for complex actions or business analytics. Multiple releases each week for testing and customer release across a range of products.
  • Managed multiple direct reports for IT, QA, and support. Helped grow business from 5-75 people and millions of dollars of revenue across business units.
  • Actively worked across multiple teams and internal/external stakeholders (including CEO/COO) to develop desktop enhancements, games, and sites (see Notable Shipped Titles).
  • Supported software platforms (application skinning) and extensions (website integration) for users to customize products.
  • Mentored internal employees (and two external startups) on communication, objectives, and technical expertise. 
2002 - 2007

Director of External Development/Vice President of Development

  • Managed a distributed, international team developing WindowBlinds (skinning – 18M downloads), Fences (desktop organization – 5M downloads), Multiplicity (seamlessly control other PCs from one keyboard/mouse – 200k downloads plus corporate sales to datacenters, ER, and government), and other Object Desktop enhancements.
  • Developed build, install, and packaging optimizations to facilitate software testing and delivery.
  • Expanded infrastructure to support digital delivery of PC game titles, desktop enhancements, skinning.
  • Worked with major PC OEMs such as Dell & HP, as well as the NBA, NCAA and NHL to package, test and publish over 70 licensed team MyColors desktop themes.
  • Wrote product documentation, edited product content/marketing materials.
1998 - 2002

Project Manager – Desktop Enhancements

  • Designed workflow and backend system support for Stardock Central digital distribution client. Stardock Central was initially used to install and update Stardock’s desktop enhancements, but quickly grew to include games (predating the launch of Steam in late 2003).
  • Technical lead managing transition from OS/2 to Windows ISV.
  • Managed ecommerce store, created web content, QA’d internal and public releases, and performed first/second level customer support via email, tickets, and forums.
