Visual Art - drawing and painting

I am currently spending my second term as a psychiatric registrar at the Bentley Mental Health Service, where I am involved in the management of acute adult admissions to the open ward. To date, I have been fortunate to gain experience working at the Broome General Hospital, and more recently as a registered GP registrar and surgical assistant on the NSW coast. Whilst I enjoy all fields of medicine, my main interests lie in psychiatry, emergency medicine, paediatrics and indigenous health.

I am also a qualified Yoga and Pilates instructor, and in my previous Bachelor degree I majored in French and Anthropology. I have a passion for travel, the outdoors, languages and music.

Experiences in Psychiatry

  • February 2015 - present: Bentley Mental Health Service (inpatient), registrar.
  • June- August 2014: Mimidi Park Mental Health Service (inpatient), Rockingham General Hospital, RMO for Peel team catchment area.
  • October 2013 - January 2014: Alma Street Triage Department, Fremantle Hospital, RMO.
  • October 2012 - January 2013: Alma Street (inpatient), Fremantle Hospital, intern for Melville team catchment area.

Education and Experiences in Medicine

I was fortunate to enjoy the first 6 months of my PGY2 in 2013 working at Broome Hospital, where I undertook a rotation in general medicine, followed by a PGPPP composite rotation in emergency medicine and general practice. I returned to Fremantle Hospital for the latter half of 2013 to complete 2 further terms in emergency medicine and one term in acute psychiatry.

My intern year at Fremantle and Rockingham Hospitals comprised of five 10-week terms, including emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, general medicine, general surgery and inpatient psychiatry.

As a medical student, I had spent several summers (December /January) abroad participating in medical volunteer experiences. These experiences included working in a refugee clinic on the Thai / Burmese border, a public health research project in rural India, and teaching medical English to hospital nursing staff in Laos.

I enjoy the intellectual stimulation and practical challenges that medicine provides me, and I take pleasure in knowing that a career in medicine is a never-ending and ever-challenging journey of learning.

Education and Experiences in Arts and the Humanities

My academic background prior to studying medicine was based in the arts and humanities. I completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Anthropology and French, including other subjects such as Spanish, linguistics, archaeology, sociology and art history. My main interests lie within cultural and environmental anthropology, with a specific interest in the displacement and disempowerment of indigenous populations. I believe that my background in the social sciences has enabled me to appreciate the social and cultural considerations inevitably encountered throughout every field of medicine.
