Hello, my name is Kirsten Popcke and I will be graduating from Chico State in December with a Bachelors degree in Child Development. Although my time at Chico State is almost over, my career is about to begin. During the past two years at Chico, I have gained a great understanding of working with children and families. The classes that I have taken, and internships that I have worked in, have allowed me to build a firm foundation of knowledge pertaining to child development. During my internships, I applied my knowledge in developmentally appropriate curriculum, communicating effectively with staff and families, and how to implement the curriculum I have planned. The reason I have chosen to work with children is because it is very meaningful work. Children are amazing; they are fun and engage fully in the world around them. I love being able to be a part of their learning experiences, and to help facilitate ways to help them learn. My philosophies when teaching and working with children is to keep an open mind, and know that children are active participants in their environment. Like children, I am always learning, I feel that working with children allows me the ability to keep my education going. I help children build confidence, facilitate problems, value our differences, and celebrate our similarities. I have chosen to play a role in working with children and families. My Child Development background will help guide my future. I will work hard to build trust with children and their families, and develop meaningful relationships with the children that I will be working with.
