There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning. Jiddu Krishnamurti

"It is not what is poured into a student that counts but what is planted." -Linda Conway

"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." -- Nikos Kazantzakis

The above quotes pretty much describes what I want to do as a teacher. I want to plant seeds of knowledge into students, with the hopes that they will use that knowledge later in life. I hope to be able to help students see that learning is fun, and that it's not just in school that lessons are learned. I want to show my students that education doesn't stop outside of the classroom, but that what is learned within the walls of school is a stepping stone for the rest of their lives. I hope to be able to instill that love of learning in my students.

Extracurricular Activities

-Girl Scouts of America, 1999-2008

Through Girl Scouts, I learned skills such as confidence and leadership.

-MESA, 2005-2008

This was a math and science club I was a part of in high school which encouraged scholarship and achievement.

-International Thespian Society, 2006-2008

The Thespian Society celebrates dramatic achievement. I held the office of clerk from 2007-2008.

-National Honors Society, 2007-2008

The NHS encouraged scholastic achievement and was a prestigious club for those who had a 3.5 or better in high school.

-Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, 2009-present

This is a Bible study I attend here in college. From 2010-present, I have been on the leadership team (I hold the office of prayer coordinator); I am responsible for leading a prayer group and larger events (for example, speaking on  prayer once a month at our large group meetings), and helping to guide the vision of our chapter.

I hope to become a theatre teacher for the secondary grades, preferably in a high school setting.

I hope to stay here in Albuquerque, but I am willing to go other places if that is where God leads me.

Secondary Education

University of New Mexico

I am currently in my fourth year, with an overall GPA of 3.9, and have made Dean's List several times. I am an active member of the campus, participating in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, where I am on the leadership team as prayer coordinator and lead a small group where I teach about prayer, as well as actively participating in the weekly meetings and activities.

To date, the education classes I have taken are Educational Psychology:Learning and the Classroom, a class on classroom management and other practical things a beginning teacher needs to know; Human Growth and Development, a class about what children and adolescents do as they grow older, where they are in development; and Microcomputers in Schools, which teaches about twenty first century learning and using technology to aid your teaching and student learning. I have also taken many classes related to my teaching field of theatre, including directing, acting, children's theatre, creative drama, and beginning technical theatre (such as lighting and costuming). I will be starting my pre-student teaching classes in the Spring, finishing off my college career with my student teaching in Fall 2012, which will be when I graduate.

Children's Ministry Worker

Mars Hill Church Albuquerque

Through my church, I work with the children's ministry each week. This is a volunteer position where I work with children ages 4-6 each Sunday, helping them to learn about essential truths of the Bible. Currently, I am a helper, meaning I am not the main teacher, but I will hopefully be able to become one of the teachers in a few months. Basically, I help the main teacher put the lesson into action, as well as helping with classroom management.

Juntos is a volunteer based mentor program where college and high school aged students mentor elementary and middle school aged students in a Sunday school setting. Basically, it involves being a role model for a group of 3-5 kids, helping them learn about the Bible, and just being there for them, being a friend. I work with a group of 3 second and third grade girls.
