Summary

Kim Figa lived life to the fullest during her short, but impactful life in Somers and Bedford Hills, New York. The daughter of Dan and Valerie Figa, Kim Figa set a path for herself early in life to help others and to lead the way whenever possible.Kim Figa’s leadership skills and desire to assist others manifested themselves in many ways. At John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers, New York, Ms. Figa was a member of the varsity cheerleaders from her freshman through senior years and captain for three of those years. She learned dance quite early, starting at age 3 at the Westchester Theater Dance Academy in Bedford Hills, New York. She eventually used her knowledge, passion, and skills to teach others of all ages, particularly children, as a dance instructor at the Academy while still in high school and college. Not confining her desire to share the joys of dance to teaching alone, Ms. Figa also performed in and helped run the academy’s charity dance events, including those for children with illnesses and the elderly, bringing entertainment, joy, and encouragement to all around. Ms. Figa graduated in 2011 from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, with a Business and Marketing degree and was hired as Manager of Kid’s Style Hair Salon in Bedford Hills, New York. Her responsibilities included running all facets of daily operations; working with children on hair styling, coloring, and cutting; and organizing salon events, including those for charity purposes. These roles gave her the opportunity to apply both her leadership and people-helping skills with her desire to be creative and work with children. Ms. Figa’s passions and interests included dance, teaching children, fashion design, and a multitude of water activities, including boating and jet skiing. Attending musicals, concerts, and New York Yankee baseball games also were high on her agenda for fun. Kim Figa passed away at the young age of 23 on January 28, 2012 from a car accident.
