F. Brian Whitman currently serves as the Vice President of Marketing, Community Relations, Business Development, Service Excellence and Community Health for the Bloomington Hospital system – a recognized, regional referral center for southern Indiana. In this capacity, Brian serves to act as branding officer to oversee all brand implementation including internal and external communication and advertising activities, market assessment, coordinated outreach, and service delivery assessment and improvement activities. Brian also teaches a health care marketing class at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana.
During his tenure Brian has worked to integrate brand, increase awareness and preference, focus internal communications, build culture of service, and develop staff to support in-house marketing and communication resources. Since taking the helm his team has secured 49 national, regional or local awards for creativity and resourcefulness in marketing and communication. In addition, Brian has lead the development of Service Excellence and physician outreach functions within his business unit and has brought on-line a contracted contact center and customer relationship management functions to support the growth of the hospital. At present Brian has been involved in most principal activities to support the integration of Bloomington Hospital with Clarian Health.
Prior to joining Bloomington Hospital, Brian provided independent counsel to hospital systems and healthcare organizations on marketing strategy, employee communication, public relations, product positioning, brand development, co-marketing partnerships and corporate communications planning. Over the course of his career, he has been responsible for all aspects of marketing and communications planning, including brand management, new product launches, partnership development, marketing promotions, corporate communications, crisis management and merger communications management.
Brian worked at Clarian Health Partners, Inc. for more than six years. In this capacity he served as interim Director for a period of nearly three years.Brian has served as a primary marketing service-line leader for many areas at Clarian including Cardiovascular, Cancer, and Methodist Hospital. In addition Brian served on many internal committees providing leadership and serving as marketing liaison.
Brian is holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care management from Western Governors University. Previously, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Indianapolis, where he majored in communications. He is a graduate of the Leadership Bloomington Program. He was formerly employed at Corporate Creations, Inc. where he served as Director of Post Production and had account oversight responsibilities for Cummins Engine, Delta Faucet, Heritage Environmental Services, Methodist Medical Group, Methodist Hospital and many others.
Brian currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Monroe County United Way. He has served on the Board of Directors for Lant and Associates, Inc., the Indiana University Alumni Association, and the Near-north Neighborhood Development Corporation, LLC (Indianapolis). He is currently on the public relations advisory councils for the Volunteers of Medicine of Monroe and Owen Counties, and the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.
Brian is an active member of peer organizations including but not limited to the Innovator’s Studio Group, Public Relations Society of America, The Advisory Board, and the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development.
