Stratus System Administrator

Longs Drug Stores, Inc.

Served as the lead system administrator for the Stratus System and ON/2 Application for Longs Drug Stores’ On-Line Transaction Processing authorization system – processing authorizations for all credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express), debit card (Star and Explore), check authorizations, pharmacy insurance claim adjudications, batch credit card processing, and other application transactions for all stores.

  • Responsible for system administration, configuration and the operations of the Stratus System (full-duplex, fault-tolerant system).Duties included system monitoring and analysis, system and procedure documentation, user interface and support, problem identification and resolution.Also responsible for VOS Operating System upgrades, operations of TCP/IP, SNA and X.25 networking, synchronous and asynchronous communications, configuration management and documentation, implementation of interfaces to VOS applications, hardware upgrades and replacements, daily system backups, and on-call technical support.
  • Responsible for the operation of a Racal PIN Encryption device for creating secure PIN cryptograms for each debit card transaction processed at every store.
  • Responsible for the administration and analysis of the ON/2 Application running on the Stratus System.Duties included technical and on-call support of the ON/2 Application, development of new applications (new message formats, new transaction types), configuration of new store connections and remote system interfaces, management and documentation of all application processes and configuration.

Unix System Administrator

Longs Drug Stores, Inc.

Participated on a team of system engineers supporting the daily operations of multiple Unix servers (HP-UX and AIX Operating Systems) running at each store location and at the corporate offices.

  • Responsible for the operations of all Unix servers (D-class and L-class servers) running at each store (over 500) and corporate offices for the many retail store operations.Duties included server access and connectivity, hardware upgrades and replacements, operating system patches and upgrades, kernel tuning, disk space utilization, networking, daily full system backups, on-call technical support.

System Administrator responsible for a 25-user Terminal Server central computer system running Windows Server 2003 – terminal server / domain controller / 2 file servers.

  • insuring that the system is running and available 24-hours a day / 7-days a week

  • maintaining all redirected printer services for remote desktop users

Software Engineer designed and implemented an Inventory Tracking System and Purchase Order System for the company's daily operations.  These applications were developed using Progress OpenEdge software and 4GL database language.

Network Administrator responsible for the network operations at the Corporate Office and the seven satellite offices – Missouri, Mississippi, Arizona, and California.  Installed a T1 network at the Corporate Office and upgraded and configured T1 connections, routers, and wireless access points at all seven satellite offices.

Email Administrator responsible for managing all company emails through our email service provider - Network Solutions.Responsibilities included : managing all email accounts, setting up users on Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Webmail applications, and cellphone email applications.

IT Purchasing responsible for all of the IT hardware and software purchases for the company including Anti-Virus software for all company computers, hardware upgrades, new products, printers, monitors and all other peripherals.

Technical Support responsible for all computer questions, issues, and concerns for the company.  This position is a 24x7 job in which many different challenges were experienced and resolved.  Implemented and managed online support for all company computers through Logmein, where direct access to these computers is an important tool for supporting all issues.

Member of a team of database administrators supporting the daily operations of multiple Oracle and Informix databases developed for key business applications for the retail drug stores management and operations.

  • Responsible for the operations of multiple Informix version 9 and 10 databases running at each store (over 500 stores) on HP-UX Unix version 11 servers (D-class, L-class, Itanium servers) for the Pharmacy Applications and for the Store Inventory Ordering Applications.  Also responsible for multiple Informix databases running on the corporate office HP and AIX Unix servers.  Duties include full database access and connectivity, daily database backups, daily database tuning, disk space usage and allocation, SQL and schema management, new database configurations, new store rollouts, Informix software upgrades, daily technical support and on-call technical support. 
  • Responsible for the operations of the many Oracle version 9i and 10g databases, for HP-UX version 11 and AIX  version 5, designed to manage all of the operations for the entire chain including Supply Chain and Ordering databases, Pharmacy Management databases, HR databases, Financial databases, Warehouse databases, etc.  Duties include full database access and connectivity, daily database backups, daily database tuning, disk space utilization and allocation, SQL and schema management, new database configurations, job scheduling, database administration using the Oracle Enterprise Management (OEM) application, Oracle software upgrades, daily technical support and on-call technical support. 
  • Responsible for all testing and development databases for both Informix and Oracle Database Software.  Duties include full database access and connectivity, restoring databases with production data, maintaining SQL and schema upgrades and changes, working closely with development teams for database and applications changes.

Participated on a team of software engineers responsible for the design of a state-of-the-art cellular phone rental system.Responsible for the operations and success of the Technical Support Department.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of programs and functions written for the Progress Database System.These programs were created to manage, report and analyze all rental data and information stored on the system with emphasis on the operations of the Central Information Processor (CIP).Also, responsible for all software upgrades and additions to the CIP.
