Coaches Bio

Coach Kevin's coaching DNA is based on that fact that he loves the game of basketball and teaching the youth of today to "work hard and play hard".  He has been involved in AAU and youth basketball for over 11 years, working under the arm of Michigan Thunder founder Jeff Spates, in his pursuit to make basketball players better in West Michigan. Coached and developed a number of successful current high school players currently playing at over 10 area high schools.

Kevin attended Grand Rapids Creston High School where he played basketball and football. Played JUCO basketball in Georgia (Atlanta Metropolitan College); and is currently working on his business degree at Davenport University .  Is currently a Freelance Virtual Web & Computer Technology Consultant and active entrepreneur.  Proud father of two boys ages 18 and 20 years old, and gramps to 8th month old granddaughter named Xandra.

coaching Philosophy

Kevin’s coaching philosophy is based on that fact that he enjoys teaching the youth of today from all backgrounds. He puts all of his energy and time into coaching and developing a player "up" within team and individual skill concepts. Always coaching with confidence, love, care, honesty, loyalty, and more importantly … patience!!!

Coaching is very similar to teaching; in fact, I strongly believe coaches are teachers and role models in all faucets good and bad. It is the job of a coach to bring out the best in each player. I strongly feel you must motivate and challenge each player to do more than they believe possible.  It is the responsibility of each coach to teach players the value of good teamwork and sportsmanship. These are life’s lessons … on and off the court.

I teach the game of basketball by a few simple beliefs:

T : TEAMWORK
E: EFFORT 100 % ALL THE TIME
A: ATTITUDE , STAY POSITIVE , REGARDLESS OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES .
M: MOTIVATION, “I want to be the best that I can”

“We … Not Me”

If we have “we” players, the game becomes fun and is appreciated. The fundamentals of basketball do not change with age … only the size, strength, and speed of the game changes. "We Work Hard And Play hard!
