Current Objective

My current career objective is to find a permanent position or work with an organization that can provide me with ongoing, interesting, challenging and rewarding Health Information Technology experiences while allowing me to effectively and efficiently utilize technology to be somewhat flexible in the time and places I complete my work. I am searching for a position where my life long learning and work experiences will be valuable if not essential to the success of a Electronic Medical/Health record project, user training and/or continuing support after a project while enabling me to maintain a healthy and happy work-life balance.

EPIC Certified OpTime Applications Analyst III

Houston Methodist Hospital System, Houston, Texas

After being accepted into the Houston Methodist EPIC project team, I traveled to Wisconsin for OpTime analyst training. I received my certification by the milestone date set by my organization. I am currently completing workflow analysis, foundation system validation, customization and build for the EPIC OpTime Application. I also serve as Application Lead for OpTime Workbench Reports, Radar and Pulse dashboards in preparation for a system wide EPIC implementation at all six Houston Methodist Hospital facilities.

Optum (formerly PICIS) Application Analyst III

Houston Methodist Hospital System, Houston, Texas

As a PICIS Application Analyst III my responsibilities included the advancement of the functionality and operational efficiency of PICIS information systems and solutions. This entailed the analysis, development, configuration and design of PICIS Software modules OR Manager and Anesthesia Manager. In this position I provided trouble ticket support resolution and training of customers during business hours and twenty four hour, seven days a week on-call support and training for one week per month. During my time in this position I helped to manage 3 large scale implementations in Perioperative areas not using PICIS as well as multiple upgrades that included making modifications to computers, installing, connecting and testing our upgrade package on hospital computers. I also worked with field operations installing serial port cards and with bio-med building connectors for data interface with patient vital sign monitors and anesthesia machines as well as provided go-live support and elbow to elbow training for 2-3 weeks prior to and post go-live at all Houston Methodist facilities on a rotating schedule.

EMR Analyst - MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinic Station Project

Avanade Inc. , MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas

As an employee for Avanade I was contracted to work on the testing, validation, analysis, implementation, deployment support and post go-live customer service for a proprietary EMR called Clinic Station designed by programmers at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. In this role I provided elbow to elbow go-live support to physicians and nurses during the Clinic Station computerized provider order entry and e-prescribing roll out. I also designed training material, informational guides and tip sheets to be used pre and post go-live to assist users in the learning of the new functionally.

Electronic Health/Medical Records Software Trainer and Implementation Specialist

Prime Clinical Systems Inc., Pasadena, California

At Prime Clinical System I planned, designed, implemented and trained Private Practice physicians and physician office staff in the meaningful use of CCHIT Certified Electronic Health Records System not only for the purpose of utilizing new Health IT Technologies but to assist them in meeting the attestation requirements for government financial reimbursement under the new Heath Care Reform policies and grant programs. I provided training in classroom, group, one on one and remote via computer, helped to develop training plans, materials and implementation checklists and plans. Assisted offices in completing and submitting attestation information. I also supported assigned offices post implementation by solving trouble tickets, revising build and providing ongoing training to current and new staff.

Medical Records Analyst

Loma Linda University Medical Center, Redlands, California

In the position of Medical Records Analyst I performed audits of patient charts after surgical procedures and returned incomplete or inaccurate records to nursing units for correction. I provided daily volume totals, stats and accurates to other departments and hospital Administration daily.  I provided information to departments regarding patient statuses, cancellations and reschedules. I also entered pertinent information from paper patient medical records into Horizon Surgical Management program and posted and processed patient charges.  I reconciled medical record with billing and charge records and corrected billing errors and issued charges and credits as directed. I was responsible for keeping accurate and complete records for audit purposes including all patient implant records and logs as well as the sending notifications in the event of implant recalls. I maintained level charging build and the professional charges master to ensure accurate peri-anesthesia billing. Finally I sent completed records to the medical record department for scanning and electronic archival.

Massive Online Open Courses Education

The foundation of the certificate I have designed is a 20 course Massive Online Open Courses developed by Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Oregon Health and Science University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham through a $10 million dollar grant from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). This foundation of courses will be supplemented by other university level MOOC courses in adult learning and education, virtual education and online course delivery, project and change management, instructional design and leadership.

Certificate of Completion and Lifetime License to Prosci Toolkit

Prosci Change Management Practitioner Training

Last year I received 3 day certification in the Prosci methodology, which builds the individual competency to implement Change Management for Houston Methodist Hospital or any other business organizations. At the conclusion of the training and the completion and presentation of a real-world change management project to Houston Methodist administration and stakeholders I was provided with my own lifetime license to the Prosci Practitioner toolkit. This kit contains software, presentation assistance strategy, personnel assessment and change resistance management tools to be used to perform change management implementation and reinforcement for any organization I work with. The Prosci Change Management Certification Program uses Prosci’s research-based Change Management methodology and tools to drive successful outcomes by focusing on the people side of change.

Electronic Health Record Clinician/Practioner Implementation Consultant

Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, California

This program prepared and trained me to utilize my allied health care experience and education to analyze and recommend solutions for health IT implementation problems in clinical and public health settings, bringing clinical expertise directly to bear. I was prepared to assist clinicians in taking full advantage of technology, enabling them to make best use of data in electronic form, including data in registries, to drive improvement in the quality, safety and efficiency of care. I learned to guide and support clinicians in selection of vendors and software by helping practice personnel to ask the right questions and evaluate the answers they receive and to then train practitioners in best use of the EHR system. Not only did this program focus on the clinical aspects of EMR but also on the preparation for a successful implementation through the documentation of workflow and information management models of the practice, conducting user requirements analysis to facilitate workflow design and the development of revised workflow and information management models for the practice, based on meaningful use of a certified EHR product.

Premiere Career College

At Premiere Career College the surgical technology coursework included surgical procedures, pharmacology, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, instrumentation identification and usage, sterile processing and sterile field techniques. In this program I had various clinical experiences at hospitals and surgical centers where I was allowed to observe, assist and "scrub" on surgical cases and procedures as well as clean, maintain and sterilize surgical instrument and endoscopes to be used during surgery. The curricula included rotations in surgical specialties, such as dental, vascular, orthopedic, labor and delivery and endoscopy. I completed the program and received my  Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) certified diploma.

EMR implementation planning and go-live support

Planned implementation of the emr project by coordinating equipment purchase, network drops, equipment purchase and installation, testing, and training of users prior to go live. Supported users through desk-side training, command center support, trouble ticket resolution, defect resolution and on-call support outside of normal business hours.

EMR education design, learning material production and online, classroom and deskside training

Documented user roles and training tracks. Created schedule of courses and reserving training rooms. Coordinated software pushes to training computers and testing the software prior to training users. Created test patients, test cases and other data needed for training.  Designed and distributing  learning material and laminated quick tip guides to be used on the floors after training has been completed.

EMR build, upgrade and customization

Completed build requirements as obtained from a project manager, application manager or vendor equivalent or on my own as requested by an appropriate person by project timelines. Documented build processes and tracked reasons for unusual build or customization. Held validation sessions with Subject Matter Experts to obtain sign off for all major build decisions. Identified foundation systems references that needed to be replaced with hospital identifiers, locations, wording, policy and other elements. Validating build with SME's and revising or changing build where necessary. Reviewing release notes, identifying potential issues and developing plan to handle them. Preparing training materials to assist users in learning new functions or technology and preparing for the upgrade through implementation planning.
