Keith Samples Discusses Filming in Toronto

One of Canada's most populous cities, Toronto offers many benefits to filmmakers through its FilmOntario program. The region's diverse look allows it to double for New York, Paris, Chicago, and other world cities at a fraction of the cost of filming in the actual location. Productions of any size can benefit from Toronto’s nearly one million square feet of state-of-the-art studio space. The on-screen and behind-the-scenes talent pool in the city consists of 25,000 crew members, at least 10,000 actors, and numerous animators, editors, and colorists. Taxes serve as another important reason why so many people choose to film in Toronto. The city provides tax credits of up to 54 percent for the labor expenses of a foreign production and 20 percent credit for hiring Ontario labor in computer animation, special effects, and green screen shooting. Moreover, FilmOntario maintains an office in Los Angeles.
