Kibo Sushi review: This was a good review because I really got into detail about the atmosphere and the overall experience of the restaurant. The whole time I was there I took notes, which really helped with writing. I had limited experience with restaurant reviews, but this was fun to write and hopefully gave readers a good idea of both the food and the restaurant itself.
Late Night with Seth Meyers review: This was an interesting article to write because it wasn't a review of just one show, but a week's worth. I reviewed the first four or five episodes of Late Night that Seth Meyers hosted, and there was a lot to write about because everything about the show was new, and there was a lot of background information to take into consideration.
Grand Budapest Hotel review: This article was one of my best because I critiqued little things about the movie along with obvious things such as the plot. I think this article had a good flow to it and I could describe characters and aspects of the movie without summarizing. I also think I made good observations and comparisons about different the movie.
I am very involved in my community. I recently graduated from National Charity League Ticktockers, a mother-daughter community service organization that constantly provided opportunities for me to give back to the community, whether it be volunteering at FoodShare, Special Olympics, Douglas Penfield School, or Project Understanding. I was also involved in National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, Quill and Scroll, co-founded Music Club and Swing Club, and was a member of National Art Honor Society. In National Art Honor Society, we would walk across the parking lot at lunch to Dorothy Boswell School, a school for students with special needs, and do art projects with the classes.
The times I showed initiative this year was when I picked up the pace when others couldn't. I covered a play at Ventura High School on a Thursday night, staying at the school until late at night to get my quotes, and had to write it after school on an iPad as I drove to Northern California to visit family. It was hard to write an article in a car with my family, but it was my job as editor to take the initiative when no one else was available, even if it wasn't an easy task. I also often took on editing jobs that were neglected, forgotten, or had no one available to work on them in the Fashoin section.
As leader of the Arts and Entertainment section, I wrote articles, edited articles, came up with ideas, taught new members how to write for the section, and was a member of the Editorial Review Board.
As a Jr. Lifeguard Assistant, I taught elementary and middle school-age children about ocean safety, the environment, first aid, and rescuing techniques. I also helped keep the group under control throughout the day.
