DIGITAL COPYWRITER

Whitecap Canada Inc.
  • CONTEXT: Whitecap is a boutique web design agency in Toronto.
  • CURRENT PROJECT: I am working alongside three in-house designers and two computer programmers to design the company's new website (launching September 2015).
  • SPECIAL INITIATIVES: In February, I initiated a bi-weekly blog series on LinkedIn Pulse that almost doubled weekly traffic to our current site.

AUDIOBOOKS NARRATOR (PRO BONO)

Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)
  • CONTEXT: The CNIB distributes audiobooks to visually impaired people across Canada.
  • CURRENT PROJECTS:  What I do is a lot like voice acting, except more sedate. I work in a recording studio once a week narrating fictional and non-fictional texts. The CNIB mostly publishes audiobook versions of recent Canadian fiction. This year, I've worked on Caroline Adderson's "Ellen in Pieces" and Mireille Silcof's "Chez L'Arabe."

PUBLIC RELATIONS SUMMER STUDENT

Legislative Assembly of Ontario
  • CONTEXT: I was one of five students hired as part of the Ontario Legislature's (paid) summer internship program.
  • PROJECTS: I curated exhibits about the the history of the parliament and wrote tour scripts. I also did a lot of weekend event-planning.
  • SPECIAL INITIATIVES: I introduced a program for local families that attracted roughly 150 visitors a week. This involved writing and starring in my own educational play, where I acted the part of "Inspector Parliament," a gregarious but hapless fictional sleuth.
Sep 2012 - Sep 2013

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Incite Magazine (McMaster University)
  • CONTEXT: Incite is a campus magazine that provides students with a platform to publish amateur fiction, satirical reportage, and political commentary.
  • DUTIES:  Headline writing, feature writing, editorial work, team leadership, administrative/executive tasks, and fundraising.
  • SPECIAL INITIATIVES: During my time as editor-in-chief I Instituted a ‘Flash Fiction Contest’ that increased the magazine's readership by 1,000 copies a month. I also led a team of 8 production staff in a fundamental redesign of the structure and layout of the magazine, introducing major new sections, which included features like: "Things You Won't Find at the Toronto International Film Festival" and "Sexual Confessions of a Model UN Delegate."
  • NOTES: After the success of the Flash Fiction contest I instituted, Incite Magazine now hosts an annual contest (and they are nice enough to invite me every year).
