Karl is mainly involved in the audit of a number of leading credit and financial institutions, primarily banks, payment services, electronic money and technology companies. Karl leads a number of reputable audit clients such as the Central Bank of Malta, Commbank Europe, Ferratum Bank, Insignia Cards Limited, C4U Malta Ltd, YSG Safe Processing Ltd and Secure Trading Financial Services.

At PwC, Karl is heavily involved in assisting financial institutions to acquire their payment service/electronic money licence in Malta, including review of the company's business plan and compilation of the organisation's policies and procedures. Additionally, Karl provides ongoing regulatory advice to financial institutions, including the treatment of large exposures, own funds rules, outsourcing rule, liquidity rule, advice on the prevention of money laundering and other ad hoc regulatory clients’ queries as they arise.

As part of the manager’s team at PwC Malta, his role includes:
• Establishing and improving relationships with key client contacts through regular communication and being on the lookout for any service opportunities with existing clients.
• Guiding the team in relation to the client business, its industry and its business risks.
• Prioritising time and managing multiple engagements within tight deadlines imposed by the client and the Malta financial service authority.

Audit Supervisor - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

In Pittsburgh , Karl was a risk assurance consultant for the Internal Audit Department of Big Heart Brands, which is the largest U.S. standalone producer, distributor and marketer of premium quality, branded food and snacks. During his three months at Big Heart, Karl was the main consultant in the re-documentation of the all the revenue business processes and controls that the company currently had in place, updating them based on the new ERP system. This task involved meeting all the process owners within the revenue department and tech developers within the new ERP. Based on these discussions, Karl was involved in updating and formulating the new revenue business processes documentation, including flowcharts and assisting the client in achieving the right balance of automated and manual controls based on the newly identified risks and design gaps.

During his stay in the United States, Karl also led statutory audits of the Bank of New York Mellon funds (one of the world’s ten largest investment companies) and Highmark Insurance Company (a healthcare partner based in Pittsburgh that serves members across the United States through its businesses in health insurance, dental insurance and reinsurance).

During his three month secondment in London, Karl led a number of technology clients, ranging from the world’s leading enterprise for business process to renewable energy companies, including:

• Xerox Europe. Karl was involved in testing the inventory and revenue of all the countries where Xerox operates in Europe. At a young age, Karl was trusted to hold various meetings with Xerox Europe top business leaders, including the company's Chief Financial Officer and the head of sales and marketing.

• Acano.com. As a first year client, Karl was involved in obtaining a thorough understanding of the Acano business processes and formulating an audit plan based on the identified risks.

During his first secondment in the island of Jersey, Karl worked for a number of asset management clients, mainly property, real estate and private equity funds. The main clients Karl was involved with included:

• White Peak Real Estate Fund. Karl was responsible for the consolidation of the WP real estate companies (based in China, Hong Kong and Barbados,) comprising retail, residential and commercial properties in the developing regions of China.

• Kedge Capital Private Equity Funds. Karl was part of a large Kedge Capital audit team. Kedge Capital currently manages assets of over US$ 6billion on behalf of a selected group of investors.

Gozo Half Marathon

President

At the age of 16, Karl started his involvement within the Gozo Half Marathon and in 2015 he was elected as president. His principal role is to inspire and lead a team of fresh and motivated volunteers to embrace the team’s vision. He has overall responsibility for designing, planning and coordinating the annual Gozo Half Marathon event and is the official spokesperson for the organisation.
