Adult Services Librarian

Evanston Public Library
  • Provide both readers advisory and reference services.
  • Coordinated a yearlong book discussion program devoted to reading James Joyce's Ulysses. At its peak, 118 participants were enrolled, and over the course of the year brought nearly 700 people to the Library. Led two of the discussion sections and coordinated the efforts of four other leaders. Developed all promotional materials and supplemental programming, including lectures and an art exhibit.
  • Serve as a co-leader for the Library's digital book promotion, troubleshooting, and education - patron and staff. Developed user-oriented web pages on EPL's website, an online help form, educational brochures, and instructional and promotional videos on YouTube. Recently hosted a well-attended eReader Boot Camp program.
  • Manage five off-site "take one, leave one" book collections at Evanston's civic center, recreation centers, and Metra stations. Coordinate six volunteers, who assist with delivery and other related operations.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, content, and design of the Library's adult Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Filmed and edited online movies promoting library services and events.

  • Provided both readers advisory and reference services.
  • Led three book discussion groups, including an off-site group that met at Starbucks.
  • Devised unique readers services programming, including a book group field trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center and a high tea event devoted to the popular novel, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
  • Collaboratively planned seasonal reading programs.
  • Responsible for selecting adult fiction and audiobooks, with a combined annual budget of $45,000.
  • Created MGPL's blog focusing on book news and reviews:
  • Assisted in maintaining MatchBook, a service that provides readers a monthly list of new library materials that match their reading preferences.
  • Coordinated and created book displays.
  • Led a yearlong, library-wide Going Green campaign. Going Green involved video projects, an environmentally-themed miniature golf course, a webpage, a blog, programming, and community participation.
  • Actively participated in outreach efforts with community organizations and local businesses. Created an outreach program serving the local senior housing facility, providing remote readers advisory services and Library materials to residents. Led an outreach event geared toward commuters at the local Metra train station.
