Karan Thachil developed an interest in healthcare, and more specifically dentistry, during his time in high school at The Academy of Research and Medical Sciences at South Cobb. It was at South Cobb High School that Karan was exposed to all the different opportunities in the healthcare field and given a chance to experience some of these first hand. What attracted Karan to dentistry in particular was his own personal experience with the orthodontist. Having had braces through the entirety of middle school and into early high school, Mr. Thachil had a real appreciation for the physical and psychological changes that could be achieved through dental work. Not only was Karan’s smile restored but his confidence was as well. After graduating from South Cobb High School in 2006, Karan Thachil continued to develop his interest in dentistry at the University of Georgia in Athens. At Mercy Health Center, Mr. Thachil had the opportunity to help Mercy with their charitable mission of providing healthcare to the underserved while also gaining valuable experience in the dental clinic. Karan gained additional dental experience as a volunteer for the local Give Kids a Smile Day in Athens, Georgia where he helped assist the dentists who were providing treatment. Karan Thachil graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2010 and began his Masters in Biology at Georgia State University that August. While at Georgia State, Karan continued to gain dental experience as a volunteer at The Ben Massell Dental Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia. Karan also spent time shadowing and assisting a local pediatric dentist in Smyrna, Georgia during his time back home. Karan Thachil graduated with a 4.0 in his Masters program at Georgia State and used all the dental experience he had acquired to gain acceptance to the The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University in 2013 where he is currently a 3rd year dental student.
