Austin Michelle Cloyd Scholarship Portfolio

Introduction Video

Here is a snapshot of my development work and interests for future study.

Research Paper

I have included a writing sample that is focused on my interest in refugee populations specifically targeted at the divide between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Ethical Research Paper

This writing sample focuses on the Dominican Republic and Haiti divide from a global ethics standpoint.

Career Aspirations

I will be graduating my undergraduate degree May 2015 with plans to continue my education in either a graduate program or law school. I plan to study either international development or immigration law in these programs respectively. I would like to pursue my graduate degree internationally. Long term I wish to work for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with a focus on education development within the refugee camps and the resettlement process. I want to make English language classes more widely available in the refugee camps. I believe that language is one of the largest barriers to the resettlement process. By establishing English language programs in the camps refugees can work on their English proficiency before arriving in their host countries. This will make their transition easier for both the refugee and host community.
