Skills

Skills

Microsoft Excel

Through my Urban Affairs and Planning major I have become proficient at Microsoft Excel and feel comfortable compiling data through excel to produce reports.

Event Planning

As a resident adviser and during my internship in the Dominican Republic I spent time planning events that contained an academic component. I am comfortable working hands on with students and serving as a mentor and role model for them.

Spanish Language

I have spent time in both the Dominican Republic and Barcelona and have achieved high intermediate to advanced fluency proficiency. During both trips I lived with a homestay family which allowed me to not only immerse myself fully in the culture but improve my language proficiency as well.

Career Aspirations

I will be graduating my undergraduate degree May 2015 with plans to continue my education in either a graduate program or law school. I plan to study either international development or immigration law in these programs respectively. I would like to pursue my graduate degree internationally. Long term I wish to work for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with a focus on education development within the refugee camps and the resettlement process. I want to make English language classes more widely available in the refugee camps. I believe that language is one of the largest barriers to the resettlement process. By establishing English language programs in the camps refugees can work on their English proficiency before arriving in their host countries. This will make their transition easier for both the refugee and host community.
